Easter is not just about chocolate

It's the last day of the Easter weekend and I'm sad to see it go.

I've had a longer one than most, after I was sent home sick on Wednesday morning I hopped onto work remotely from home for a few hours, but haven't touched it since.

Thursday I lay on the couch waiting to feel less drained while I watched NCIS with my sister who'd taken the day off (it was her birthday), occasionally passing out and finding I'd missed an entire episode in between blinks. In the evening we took my sister out to dinner for her birthday where the food was excellent and then we drove the 500m back to our house where we sang karaoke for the next three hours. Not the best way to beat a cold.

On Good Friday we got up early for our trip to Sydney with bob_ette. The girls put up with three hours of my gratuitous rock (I only found the disco and boogie on the return trip) before we got to Dad's apartment, dropped off our things and headed to the Powerhouse Museum to see the Star Wars exhibition before its close in late April.

We caught a quick lunch in China town before heading on down the docks, it was quiet for Sydney standards. Inside the Powerhouse a lot of people seemed to be taking advantage of the Easter Weekend and had headed *out* of Sydney. It made much more room for us to cozy up to the glass and study the props, costumes and technology of SW. The exhibit was very good and I really appreciated how the panels described the expositional drivers that influenced why sets or spaceships were designed a certain way, even if it wasn't strictly functional. The audience's ability to believe through familiar shapes, concepts or design trumped practical design at many turns. I'll leave it to the engineers to conclude whether a fair balance between function and familiarity was found.

We were home by eight on Friday night, absolutely exhausted after walking all day and in bed by eleven. Friday night television blows.

Saturday was IKEA DAY! I wasn't a great disciple before, but the other two were very excited. I was just happy I got us there without getting lost (the return trip was another story). None of us had ever been, so I was a bit miffed (but pleased) by their restauarant/cafe set-up, which was just a procession before a large buffet. $2.50 breakfast, baby, is win win win.

We walked around IKEA for about three hours and then shuffled our heavy-laden trolley back to the car. It may have been the first time people appreciated I drive a 4WD! We were out of Sydney and back home by 5PM, had a nice dinner with the 'rents of lasagne and apple crumble (miam miam) and then ran out of the house once more to watch 17 Again.

So, I'm not a person who's ever taken much notice of "The 'Fron", but he really impressed me in this film. The overzealous tan of his makeup crew was distracting in a few shots, but if any geeks are out there and haven't cast an eye to this film, I'll recommend you go see it for the unexpected and unabashedly glorifying geek factor alone. I was in stitches for so much of this film, it's a really good laugh. You might hide your face for the shame a few times, but the pay-off is worth it.

And then Sunday I slept until noon. Went to bob_ette's to watch SYTYCD and the sister refuse all assistance to assemble a bookshelf that wasn't hers. Today I slept until noon again, then deciphered the mystery of Dad's mobile bills and plan.

The sister is currently reviewing the LULz of the Xena-verse in the background, maybe she just tired of all the austerity of NCIS. I'm currently planning how to rearrange the house before the painters come inside tomorrow. It could be messy.

Hope everyone else had a great Easter weekend! I'm only now cracking into the chocolate.
