First Day of School

Yesterday was the first day of school for me. I'm taking three internet classes and a DVD class...12 units in all. I started on the first one last night, and it was a lesson in frustration.

We have two computers sharing one monitor. This means that if someone wants to use the computer, they have to ask the person using it to clear off for a bit. One of the computers has more brains but doesn't have Word or Excel. That does not work with the classes I am taking. So I had to use our computer, the other one, which, in the world of computers, is not all that smart of a computer. But at least it has Word and Excel.

I spent a bunch of time trying to figure out how the class worked. The teacher had sent an email saying "go to the FAQ at the Assignments section of this website," without actually referring to a website. I could only assume she meant the Blackboard website, where all assignments are listed. After writing her an email about it, I finally found what she was looking for. I read all the crap on there and was kind of confused. Then I read the syllabus and more useful stuff. I found out that I have to either mail in my homework or bring it to the class. LAME! (ss) Also, the teacher hasn't updated the website with information that pertains to this semester. MORE LAME! (ss)

Another lame thing is that we don't have black toner for the printer and I keep forgetting to bring in the manual so I can order it through work. I will remember! I must remember!

So then I started going through the book. OH MY GOD. It's basically a class for someone who doesn't know what a computer is or does. Since I opened the shrinkwrap and can't return the book now, and since I am sure I'll learn something useful, and also since this is a prerequisite for the spreadsheets class I really wanted to take, I'm just going to continue plugging along. As long as I get the assignments in on time and do well on the tests, it'll be an easy A, I hope.

Something I noticed is that I might need to wear earplugs while I do my schoolwork at home. Everyone else in the house having a jolly old time while I'm trying to study is not good. This week will be a good test run on the whole thing and I will figure out what days are best to do school so there aren't tons of distractions. I don't want to get in the way of other people using the computer, either.

I got an email at work today from Dell saying that they are having a sale for business customers on computers and there was a laptop that was for a good price. I wonder if I could get one through work? That would totally rock!

I think the Accounting classes will be less lame. I will try those tonight after Dreams Come True.
