The piano, of course. Using it, I can escape into an imaginary world far larger than my own.
Two days ago, I read that Beethoven composed his "Pathétique" sonata around the time he was nearly completely deaf, and that the first movement of this piece expresses his sheer anger, frustration, etc. at becoming a deaf composer. Today I attempted this movement for the first time, and I could certainly relate to the feeling/emotion of some times in my past, though Beethoven's frustration and genius far surpasses mine. In any event, this piece is now officially "cool"/awesome by my standards so I'll have to learn it; someday when I'm asked to play Piano Man or Linus and Lucy or some musical BS like that, I'll have this piece to play / fall back on instead. No longer shall I waste my time with those who only appreciate what I can hardly call music; if they want to hear it, let them learn to play it. Excelsior.
