It’s easy to blame the bug

So, two weeks off work. A real opportunity to live the way I want to. Get up when I want, drink and smoke to my hearts content, write, snap, draw, read, create, create, create.

Of course, the lesson from reality is that I may as well have stayed at work and saved my holiday allowance.

Week one was marred by the loss of Lodd. He now resides on a hunk of rock, hundreds of miles away. He’s closer to Oslo than fair old Coventry. I feel bad whining about it seeing as he’s the one who’s had to up-end his life and wave goodbye to humanity. The house is deadly quiet and even the ghosts that would historically revel in spooking us out have moved on to livelier surroundings.

The photo is the last I have of my friends together… 6am… stoned… prepared to walk out of the door, prepared to carry his belongings to the train station, completely unprepared for the teary departure that would follow.

Christmas itself was fantastic as it gave me the chance to forget about that side of my life and concentrate on Sophie’s happiness, and how happy she was! I don’t think she’s stopped singing for the last fortnight. By all accounts (or at least Sophie’s), Rudolph has been “driving Santa’s slaves tonight” like a consummate professional this festive season.

Post boxing day was owned by a bug. A virus that got my whole family. Vomitting repeatedly from 3am to 1pm. Did you just take a sip of water? Better get to the toilet because it’ll be on its way back up in a second or two. As such New Year was dull. Well, as it goes, it’s easy to blame the bug but I’ve a feeling that the New Year dirge had more to do with a certain someone’s addiction to TV, an addiction that that I allowed this to direct my own New Year.

+Point: Instead of giving me CD’s to raise my nose to, my family gave vouchers! Cue a penniless but fruitful trip to HMV and Virgin. Said fruits include:

Mylo - Destroy Rock and Roll
More dance than you could shake your disembodied limbs at!

The Pizzicato Five - The Fifth Release From Matador
Lick the insert, lick without shame and wobble spasmodically at indefinable Japanese pop treatery.

Rough Trade - 25
Rough Trade covers Rough Trade makes you go awwwww.

Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News
I’m not going to jump on the Modest Mouse bandwagon. I heard an album of theirs a fair old time ago, and, I can’t whether I just wasn’t ready for it, or if my judgement was spot on at the time but… I thought it was shit. GNFPWLBN couldn’t be further from that though. Top album.

I had my hair cut and decided to banish the straightners to hell forevermore. As such, work colleagues have an even greater propensity to look at me like I do not belong there. That I might be a cleaner in a suit. They couldn’t be closer to the truth.

By the fucking way; unless you live near the pistes, snowboarding does not make you cool. It makes you a middle class wannabe and I don’t fucking care if you holiday at the same resort as the Blairs, your life is not worth more than mine simply because your house is. I don’t even have a fucking house. Someone needs to save me from my workplace.

And my social life. My free time to exciting plans ratio is about to flip. Save me from myself?
