He that is not jealous is not in love. -St. Augustine

The first time Hardison met Agent McSweeten he thought he wasn’t the sharpest crayon in the box, but it suited the team’s need to help Ray and his family get the restaurant back. The way Parker touched him to get the ID card unnerved him. Rationally he knew she was just doing a standard lift, but that jealous feeling still crept up.

When they met up with the two agents again, Hardison’s irritation with McSweeten’s obvious display of his crush was hard to hide. Parker of course was oblivious to most of what was going on around her and was more upset that he was the one going in for the safe rather than her.

The final straw came when they placed the convict in McSweeten’s trunk all because Parker didn’t want him to get sent back to Kansas. Hardison was done. Done with the waiting and being patient tonight he would try to at least talk to Parker.

This thinking was what led him to sitting down next to Parker at McRory’s. Taking a breath Hardison turned to face her and lay his thoughts on the table.

“You know when I told you the pretzels would be right here waiting? Well those pretzels would like to know if you’re going to eat them soon.”

Seeing the wide-eyed look Parker was giving him, he continued, “I know that you have a hard time with things like feelings and I just want you to know that I’ll always be here, but I don’t want to risk losing you to someone like fresh-from-the-cornfields McSweeten. He doesn’t get you like I do and--”

“Hardison!”

“-I don’t think that there’s anyone that will get me either and--”

“Hardison,” Parker said once again while placing her hand on his arm to stop his rambling, “you’ll always be my pretzel.”

Looking at Parker in disbelief when he finally heard her words he couldn’t be sure he trusted his ears and continued, “You’ll always be my- wait does this mean?”

“Shh, Hardison. Let’s get out of here.”
