i finally discovered
Due South last month. i just finished watching the two-part series finale. it was an overwhelming ride. the show made me laugh, cry, wish i lived in the yukon. i've never seen such an examination of pure goodness on television that wasn't also sickeningly sweet (Highway to Heaven, Touched by an Angel). it had an existential goofiness that defies explanation. i swear some episodes relied soley on deus ex machina to get fraser (and whichever ray) out of whatever mess benton had gotten them into. but it wasn't trying to be believable. it was much more classical than that. i loved every minute. even the episodes that were obvious failures were worth the 45 minutes of my time.
i've been playing
World of Warcraft since about 2007. i don't remember exactly when i started and i'm too lazy to look it up. but it's been a major part of my life for a while. it's rare that i don't at least check my in-game mail everyday. but i almost quit this week. (in fact i would have canceled my account but i couldn't get the page to load).
blizzard did some bad things. i kept my account. at the last minute (after their users hit the forums to the tune of at least 50K posts), they reversed their decision. but if they hadn't, i would have quit. and even now i'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. i really want to play a
Goblin, but depending on how far they push the realID feature in game or how they try to turn the game into facebook (which i loathe), this might be the end. still, we won this round.
i ride the bus. a lot. and not just on weekdays. STA announced that in the fall they were going to remove saturday service from my route. damnit. i ride the bus on saturday. i WORK on saturday. i complained. but the proposed reduction still made it into the draft before the final hearing. however some riders were smarter and more eloquent than i, and, using rider submitted suggestions,
STA was able to make reductions while still continuing to service our route on saturday! two relatively powerful corporations listened to their customers. weird, huh? almost as if
were there...
