Fail!Yesung#1

“Would you marry me...” Kangin sung the line again, his voice dry and scratchy from all the practice.

“No. God why are you always flat at the end, can you hold on the note longer at the end and drag it out.” Yesung said as he listened to Kangin’s pitch.

“What do you mean...” Kangin threw down his headphones in disgust. “I can’t do it.”

“Would you marry me...” Yesung demonstrated, a difference between their singing obvious, “hold the me sound longer.”

“Would you marry me...” Kangin tried again as Yesung shook his head. Yesung was unaware but Kangin was twitching with something that resembled a small box in his pocket.

“Better, but still not good enough.” Yesung tapped his pen against the table for the rhythm, “Again.”

“Would you marry me...” Kangin tried yet again. The sounds of the box opening and closing echoed softly from inside his box.

“Aishh what’s wrong with you.” Yesung twirled the pen in his fingers as Kangin went flat again.

“Would you freaking marry me…” Kangin half sang, half blurted out. He clenched the box in his hand.

“If you don’t want to practice then don’t fucking ask me to help you if you’re going to waste my time.” Yesung slammed the table and bitched at him. “And you’re fucking changing the lyrics now too. God you’re hopeless.”

Kangin stomped hard on the ground. Why the fuck was Yesung so fucking stupid sometimes.

“Would you marry me…” Kangin sang in perfect pitch. Yesung whirled around and was amazed at his sudden perfection.

“Do it again.” Yesung demanded, insisting that it was a fluke.

“God damnit it Jongwoon…” Kangin groaned as he collapsed in the chair. “Would you marry me.” He sang again in perfect pitch.

“You gotta buy me dinner tonight for helping you, you can actually sing now.” Yesung’s eyes brimmed with tears as he looked content with himself.

Kangin got up and threw the box at him before he stormed out of the room.

“Yah you inconsiderate ungrateful bastard.” Yesung called out as Kangin pushed the door open and let it slam shut. Yesung scratched his head before he saw the box lying on the ground.

He opened it and immediately ran after his Youngwoon.

Fail!Yesung #2

Yesung walked sleepily outside to the living room holding his blanket in his left hand, his right hand rubbing his eyes.

“Yah why are you still up.” Kangin groaned as he saw the man walk into the living room as he plopped himself next to him on the sofa.

“I woke up…” Yesung grumbled as he rested his head on Kangin’s shoulder.

“Is the TV too loud, did I wake you up?” Kangin asked as he took his eyes off the screen.

“No… I kicked my blanket. It fell on the ground and I was cold.” Yesung fidgeted in his spot as he clasped his arms around Kangin.

“God you loser.” Kangin pushed him off as Yesung whimpered. “Who the hell kicks their blanket… and wakes up because its cold… what are you… five years old?"

Yesung whimpered louder as he threw the blanket over his head.

“Aish.. you big dork.” Kangin got up and half dragged Yesung back to bed and tucked him in.

Hand in Marriage

Yesung’s left hand slid in his shirt as he gripped his side painfully, his eyes clenched tight as he struggled to keep himself from crying. The pain lurched again, twice as painful as the last one, as Yesung let out a small cry before he fell off his chair, his body collapsed to the ground as people began yelling.

The last thing he saw was Wookie and Kangin’s face, their mouths open as they hollered for help before everything turned dark.

*~*~*~*~*~*

“Yesung sshi. Yesung sshi. Can you hear me?”  Yesung felt an unfamiliar hand tap his numb cheek lightly. The pungent stench of hospitals flooded into Yesung’s nose as he sniffled.

“I… where…” Yesung opened his mouth before realizing he was held down by wires and tubes. His eyes darted around the environment. Purple flimsy curtains, white tiled ceiling, people dressed in green hats with plastic gloves.

“You are in Seoul National Hospital. Can you tell me what you remember before you passed out?” The nurse asked softly as the doctor beside her continued checking his status on the machines, his hand furiously scribbling down letters and numbers.

“I… we were eating. Celebrating?” Yesung coughed as his side lurched painfully.

“Doctor, his heart rate is steady but his blood pressure is low.” Another nurse called out as she placed a hand on his forehead. “Temperature is normal.”

The man in the white coat brushed the nurse aside and handed her the clipboard as she continued scribbling where he left off.

“Yesung sshi, we need to take you and perform further tests on you.”

Yesung suddenly felt dizzy as his head felt heavy, his eyelids drooping as he closed them.

“Yesung sshi. Yesung sshi are you with me?” The doctor called out roughly, “Yesung sshi.”

“I’m here…” Yesung whispered as his side burned with pain. He knew something was wrong; the pain had been increasingly escalating for the past weeks.

“We think there’s something wrong with your kidney, we’re going to push you up to the 5th floor. Yesung sshi, are you with me?”

“Yes.” Yeusng’s stomach was doing backflips as he calmly absorbed the doctor’s words. Maybe he should have spoken up…

~*~*~*~*~

The doctor pushed open the doors when he was immediately horded by the members of Super Junior and their managers, all of them firing off questions at him.

Kangin grabbed his collar and hoisted him up in the air before a nurse and Leeteuk grabbed his arm, tugging at it to drop the doctor.

“What’s wrong with him.” Kangin growled.

“Sir, Sir. Please calm down.” More nurses flooded into the corridor attempting to control the situation.

Minutes later, which felt like an hour, the doctor finally announced Yesung’s situation.

“There’s something wrong with his kidney and liver.”

“Nothing serious, right?” The timid Ryeowook asked from the back, his hands clenched around Sungmin’s shirt.

“I’m afraid not.”

“But what exactly happened.” Leeteuk demanded as he continued holding onto Kangin, the latter still angry and upset over the news.

“We don’t exactly know yet, but preliminary tests have indicated his kidney function is very weak, causing him excruciating pains. His liver isn’t very good either.”

“How long has this been going for?” Kyuhyun pushed Siwon aside as he looked bitterly at the doctor. His eyes were boiling with frusturation.

“If he talked about the pain he was feeling earlier, things would have been a lot better, we could have done a lot more for Yesung sshi. But speaking as of right now, things aren’t looking very good.”

“What do you mean not very good. Damnit can you give us something direct.” Heechul blurted out as he kicked the wall angrily.

“He might not make it.” The doctor said softly, “We will continue to monitor his progress and make sure he is alright, but..."

"But what." Siwon edged the doctor on.

“It’ll depend on how much of a fighter he is. Medical help can only help him so far, the rest is up to him.” The doctor walked away as the message sunk in. Leeteuk and Heechul chased after the nurses, trying to get more information on what was going on. Sungmin held onto Ryeowook as he sobbed on his shoulder. Kangin slid down the wall and buried his head between his legs.

For once in his life, Kangin was confused and scared at the same time. In any other situation Kangin could just rely on his social network and relations to get things done, but this was different. He felt helpless as he watched his Yesung deteriorate in front of his eyes.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Weeks and months passed by and Yesung’s condition didn’t seem to be letting up. His body grew weaker and weaker, physically, mentally, spiritually.

He began talking less and less, the duration of his speech shortened as his body grew weaker. His words began muddling up as he found himself often confused and forgetful of what he just said seconds ago.

His face continued draining in colour as he got paler and paler, his appetite diminishing as he could barely chew on solid substances. At times he would slip in and out of consciousness without him even knowing that he had fainted.

Kangin rested his head against Yesung’s fragile body when the doctor came in.

“Oh sorry doctor, should I leave so you can do your check up?” Kangin immediately got up and headed for the door. He had spent so much time there that he knew when the doctors and nurses would come and go. Hell he even knew when the cleaning lady walks by every day and when the head nurse would walk by, holding her clipboard with her pink bitchy glasses.

“Youngwoon, that is your name right?” The doctor placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. “You know when someone is in a critical condition and you feel so helpless…”

Kangin nodded silently.

“It’ll help if he has something to live for. Something for him to fight for his life.” The doctor gave a reassuring smile, a smile that a father would give to his son whenever he did not get first place, or a smile a grandfather would give when he watched his grandkids run around frolicking in the park.

“Like Jongwoon sshi here. I’m sure he needs someone like you in his life. Someone he can fight this war with. Someone he can rely on.”

Kangin felt his tears stream down his face as he wiped them with his sleeve.

“I think it’s safe to say that he is not just your band member.” The doctor squeezed his shoulder and patted him twice. “Help him fight this war.”

The doctor left the room as Kangin ran outside to the nearest jewelry store and bought a ring. He slipped the ring onto Yesung’s finger and held his hand against his own cheek.

“Jongwoon, will you let me be by your side?”

Kangin heard a small whimper as he saw Yesung open his eyes, a single tear rolling down his cheek. He nodded his head ever so slightly as Kangin squeezed his hand tightly.
