Chase
Kibum/Sungmin | PG | AU/Action
835 words

feel the wind in your hair, see the lights sparkle in your eyes; do you hear my feelings for you?

Everything blurred as he sped by. There was something he had to do, something he had to say, but what? Focus. They are too close behind for him to slow down now.

“Why are you always so reckless, why do I even put up with you?” Kibum stepped on the accelerator, surging forward as he weaved between cars.

“It’s not my fault they installed an additional alarm system, the report didn’t include that,” Sungmin yelled back after another round. His hands were shaking as he popped open the cartridge, reloading his gun, “Kibum, I’m sorry. I should have been more careful.”

“Watch it!” Kibum reached over, grabbing his collar when his car swerved dangerously close against a container truck. Had Sungmin’s head been out the window, Kibum didn’t want to think about what would have happened.

Sungmin was out the window again, firing shot after shot at the car trailing behind them. Like a scene out of an American action film, Kibum smiled, shaking his head as he focused on the road, they actually exist when things go wrong. A dangerous, high speed car chase straying away from innocent civilians onto the highway, they actually exist in real life. From the side mirror, Kibum saw the trailing car swerve and smash against the side of the road, and Sungmin popped back into his seat, panting and ecstatic.

“At least my aim is still good,” Sungmin popped open the compartment and threw the gun inside. “Took out their front tire and watched them slide, it was amazing, Kibum, amazing.”

“Well, in case you haven’t noticed, we’re still in shit right now, call Kangin hyung, change the destination point closer to us,”

“Yeah, yeah, I know what to do,” Sungmin took Kibum’s phone cheekily and brought it to his ear, “You have got to relax more often, Bummie. Raccoon, send a helicopter to the pier, oh stop yelling, we just got out of there as we speak, yeah stop screaming at me, I can call you raccoon any time I want, I failed, well the report didn’t mention another security system...”

Kibum tapped his fingers loudly against the wheel. Now wasn’t exactly the best time for Sungmin and Kangin to be whisked into another one of their petty fights about who was right.

“Details when I get back, just get us a helicopter, we need to scrap the car too, ok, bye raccoon.” Sungmin hung up and tossed the phone into one of the drink holders. “All done.”

“I’m surprised Kangin hyung doesn’t murder you with how you treat him...”

“Well, I am the best field agent that he has,” Sungmin turned on his seat so that he was facing the younger man, “and I have one of the best technicians and drivers in all of Seoul, I don’t think he can afford to fire me.”

“You make me sound like I’m a possession,” Kibum pouted and relaxed. They were on a quieter stretch of the highway, traffic definitely wasn’t an issue. Beads of sweat began forming on his forehead after the pang of adrenaline began slowing down, his senses much less sensitive to the flaring impulses around them.

“Aw, I’m sorry Bummie,” Sungmin leaned over and padded Kibum’s forehead with the sleeve of his shirt. “But didn’t you have something to tell me, you said you’d tell me after this mission.”

Kibum gulped, the box dangling inside his pocket. It seemed a lot easier when they still had the mission to complete, that it would be forever before they were at this moment again, before he had to convince himself that he had the courage to tell Sungmin his feelings.

“Min, I’m driving,” Kibum leaned back when Sungmin began dabbing at the other side. The road down to the pier was unpaved and fairly uneven. “It’s dangerous.”

“Fine,” Sungmin pouted and sat back on his seat, “So what did you have to tell me?”

Kibum gripped the steering wheel tightly with one hand, the other fishing for the box inside his pocket. He brought it out, handing it nonchalantly to Sungmin. “For you.”

“You got me a present, oh Bummie, you’re so sweet.” Sungmin took the box like a small child. Kibum pulled off to the side of the road. Their helicopter should be here soon.

“Come, let’s go outside,” Kibum stepped out of the car, leaving the keys dangling in the ignition.

Sungmin opened the box and turned to look at Kibum, his eyes barely containing his shock. Kibum shrugged and smiled a small smile, taking the ring and slipping it onto his finger.

“S-Sungmin, will you -”

Sungmin just nodded because he couldn’t hear the exact words, Kangin’s helicopter had approached and the swirling blades muted out the rest of Kibum’s question. Leave it up to Kangin to always come in at the wrong time and ruin their moments. He had a pretty concrete idea about what it was going to be anyways, as Kibum took his hand as they stepped into the helicopter.
