Great review. I think I'm torn on the whole thing the more I think about it. But it's not on the actors, or the direction or the set (I WANT THAT TRAIN. NOW. I DON'T CARE IF IT WAS POINTLESS. I WANT IT NOW. IN MY FRONT LAWN.), but with the writing itself.

I know they've emphasized that they're giving voice to the creature, but I sometimes wonder if Victor's voice got trampled in the meantime. I know Victor's been in a lot of stuff as the protagonist/main voice in movies, etc., but I would argue that the voice is about as accurate as those depictions of the creature's voice.

It just didn't feel as balanced as I would have liked. I had this odd feeling that they were trying to make the Creature so likable, when in reality, he's also kind of a jerk. There's only so far the argument "I HAD A SHITTY DAD" can take you and the Creature (also in the book) takes that argument to the point where credulity is stretched.

Also, this just kind of highlight the fact that really, seeing a play in person is always way better than on a movie screen. I just felt a bit distant from the whole thing.

Admittedly, my experience with Frankenstein has been the novel, Young Frankenstein (I couldn't stop dropping quotes during the NTL showing), Van Helsing and a LARP I played. So I don't think I'm as accurate as anyone else.

Sorry. Long comment is long.
