Hello!
So I know I haven't updated in forever but nothing exciting has happened. Oh wait except WGI World Championships!!!!
Okay so we left late tuesday night and loaded the bus and what not. It was a very cramped busride, I only got like 2 hours of sleep and that was with me sleeping on the gross floor. So we arrived in Ohio around 4 on wednesday. And went straight to practice. We got to practice at this elementary school that had its own gym, it was really nice. And then the bus was late coming to pick us up so we didn't leave until 7:30 and then went and showered and ate dinner. Then the whole guard did a bonding activity that lasted forever.
We got up early again thursday to practice of course. But this time it was at some armory and it was hot and we had to practice on concrete. It was a good practice though. Then we went to watch some prelims and get ready for our prelim competition. we were all excited about doing it and our main goal was to make finals. Ok so we had a beyond amazing show. We got a 91.0, which means we finally broke 90, and put us in 4th out of 60 guards. And we were scored 1st in equipment.
Friday morning we woke up again to practice, it was another good practice but it was bitter sweet just thinking this is the last practice. And then we went to semi-finals. We had a good show, we didn't preform as well. But it's okay. I don't even know our score. We were then 11th out of 60, bc one judge scored us 7th in equipment and another judge scored us 1st. (which basically shows that its very political). But's its okay! We then were heading to another arena to watch the world guard perform. However the bus driver calls trevor telling us our floor fell off the bus and he was stuck in a hole. So we sent 2 guys to go help him put it back on the bus. So we ended up not going to see them perform which was kind of sad, but thank God they made finals! So we then began to get ready to preform in finals!!! We were all excited! I mean my frist time to wgi and i made finals! Not to mention this is a brand new guard and we made finals! So that was awesome! Going into the tunnel right before you go on wasn't exactly what I expected it to be. However, when we circled up right before we went on was very emotional. Michael james started getting really sad and telling us how there will never be another knights a like this year. And then willie(who was also my coach last year) started crying. And he was telling us how we have improved so much throughout this season and all this other stuff that made me lose it. I started crying and then that makes everyone else start crying. And so then there are all of these penguins crying, when our show is supposed to be happy. We go into holding and I am still crying. And i think the main reason I was crying was bc at the time I was against doing guard next year. And i just kept saying to myself that this is the last time i will be performing. So then we went and performed and had an amazing show. And it is truly an amazing experience. I cannot even began to explain how amazing it felt. Well let's just say I now realize why people do winter guard for so many years. So yes we got 9th, which means we moved up 2 spots and we were all excited about that! Oh and then I went and played cards until the morning hours with some boys and totally beat them all even though they will just deny it.
So then saturday was all about finals for open and world guards. It was nice and relaxing. We all went to olive garden, all like 50 of us. So that was nice because we were all together for once. And then it was finals! And there are some amazing high school guards that make me feel so un-talented. But yes the independent guards were awesome too! Knights did great, i definitely started crying. They have come so far this year and are actually the only guard to be in world class finals during their first time in world class. We then watched with retreat and they ended up getting 11th! And then we got on the bus and drove back!!!
So all in all it was a fun trip, not alot of sleep though. But hey who needs sleep right? It was definitely something i will never forget. And who knows maybe this wasn't my last year of doing winter guard......lol
