If you have trouble at the polls...

Nov 03, 2008 12:57

I hope that none of you need this information, but if you have any trouble at the polls, please do not hesitate to call 1-866-OUR-VOTE to contact Election Protection, or to encourage anyone you see having trouble to do the same. They are a non-partisan organization and will provide help regardless of who you might be voting for. Their website is also a great resource for information like what kinds of ID you can be asked to provide.

Things that constitute "trouble" in this case include:
  • Polling place is not open when it should be, or is closing early
  • You're told that you're not registered, or you're in the wrong precinct
  • Voting machines are not working
  • Someone is asking for identification or information you don't think you're required to give
  • You're told that you have to fill out a provisional ballot
  • Someone is acting in an intimidating manner or trying to prevent you from entering the polling place

  • Here's hoping.
