The last winter I was in Madison, I discovered Starbucks' pumpkin spice latte (PSL for those who have worked there). The first few years, I'd tried it, because everyone raved about it, but didn't like the flavour. There was something weird about it.
But, that last winter, I was. in. love. And drank lots of them. I hadn't realized I really did like pumpkin. (I love pumpkin seeds. I do not love pumpkin pie. It's a texture thing.) I think it was that year, too, that I discovered pumpkin flavoured creamer (in your dairy aisle). And found that, it too, was seasonal.
This year, around the time that Starbucks rolled out the PSL, I started looking for the creamer in the dairy case at my supermarket of choice. And it wasn't there. Then, I started seeing the peppermint ones a few weeks ago, in honor of Christmas. I thought my chance was over. Sarah told me that it was probably because there were pumpkin shortages this year, due to crops, etc. I did promptly tell her that there was really nothing approximating pumpkin in the ingredients list (I did recall that). We had a good laugh, though I kept looking for it.
Yesterday, on our weekly "what we need for the week" run, Sarah went to grab milk and I saw that holiday creamers were on the refridgerated end cap. And I saw one that was similiar to what I've had (and loved) before. I was like "Oh, okay, I'll try it." Then I looked a bit more to the left. And there it was. I was so excited to have the opportunity to have it again.
So, I am sitting here, sipping my coffee spiked with pumpkin spice creamer. And I keep smiling.
And while tagging this, I smiled realizing that I do, in fact, have a tag for coffee.
