Ireland!

Hi everyone! I'm in Ireland, yay! Soo, I had a good trip over. In general I wasn't nearly as nervous as I thought I'd be. The only time I was really nervous was going through security and getting settled onto the airplane. And by the way, Aer Lingus is super strict about having everything stowed away. They wouldn't even let me hold my sweatshirt. Sheesh. Then I had to wait like 4 hours in the airport. It was the longest day ever. Oh, and just so you know, it can in fact snow in Ireland. It snowed before I had even stepped outside. So weird! It made me happy though. Since then its also RAINED, hailed, had intermiten times of sunshine, and we had a crazy wind storm one night where we lost power for a while. They said this is the worst time for the weather, which also means the few people who actually live here hybernate. But its comforting knowing it'll gradually get better. Oh, and it gets dark at like 4:30pm, and the sun doesn't come up until about 8:30am. Its lovely. But again, the days will gradually get longer.

The house I'm in is lovely! Its got hardwood floors, nice big windows with a beautiful view, and big comfy chairs :) Oh, and we have a peat burning fireplace which is a necessesity. I have a single, which is great, and the comforter is even lavender like my room at home :) I definitely understand why Ann's been raving about tea. Its the only thing that keeps you warm, and therefore sane. Its amazing how better a mood I'm in once I've had some tea. Thankfully the computer room at the school is nice and warm :) I'm sure I'll be spending a good amount of time here, since its the only place around with available internet. There's an internet cafe in the village, but I'm pretty sure its closed for January. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the guy reopens it, since that's only about a 5 minute walk from my house. Today I find out how long the walk is back to my house from school. I'm closest to the village, but the farthest from the school. There's a shuttle in the afternoon to take you back, but I'm sure there will be days when I stay later or come on the weekend, either to work on stuff, or to skype. This time difference thing is really annoying.

In the next couple days I'll have my schedule finalized. I think I'll have advanced photo, photo independent study, mixed media or figure drawing, creative writing, and Irish studies. I know the Irish studies class in on Friday, which is kind of annoying, but we go on a ton of field trips throughout Ireland, so that should be fun. On Saturday I'm headed to Galway to get a cell phone, and some more food since it'll be cheaper there than in the village. I'll be really happy once I have a cell phone, so I can actually call home when I want, even though it'll be expensive. They give you about $40 worth of minutes I think though when you buy the phone. There's not even a land phone in the house. We just have an emergency cell phone, pay phones in the village, and one at the school. And stupidly my phone cards from thes states don't work. Ugh. Maybe for some reason they'll work on the cell phone I get. Keep your fingers crossed for me! I think that about covers things for now. Hopefully tomorrow I'll reach some of you on aim. I forgot to bring my ethernet cable today, and it doesn't matter anyway, since you're all still asleep :p Miss you guys!
