This calls for a celebration. Because not only am I updating for the first time in a million years, but MY COMPUTER IS FINALLY BACK AND FIXED! it's been a 2 month-long affair. first it had overheating problems, then the viruses came and chomped on poor lappy until he wuz deadz. i sent it to dell, they fixed the hardware problems, & sent it to texas (3601 wedgway dr, to be exact. no one lives there anymore) to "deliver it." why the hell they didn't deliver it to the place they picked it up, i have no idea. anyway finally they removed their heads from their asses and sent it back to alexandria, varginia. i opened the box all excitedly, yet it was still chock-full of viruses. so i brought it with me on the most relaxing/wonderful weekend trip to boston to see manfriend, he fixed it after i left, and it just came in the shmail today! i missed you, lappy!
and he missed livejournal. he wanted me to tell you that.
so, to answer the questions already buzzing in your heads, no, DC hasn't made me completely insane. i have just been watching a lot of scrubs. a lot of tv in general, really. this summer has been tv mania. i guess i haven't watched much the past 3 years and i'm making up for it now.
or it could be that my commute is so long that when i get home i'm exhausted and that's the only thing i can keep my eyes awake for.
DC life has been great though. i remember working at QT and thinking, "If only i worked in an office setting. then i could wear nice clothes (not this stinking uniform), be in airconditioning, and not have to take out trash. ahh that would be the life." well now i'm there. hoooah! and even though a lot of it is clerical since my APP project is over, i still enjoy the interns i work with and my bosses.
i've learned a lot. i even got to see condi rice speak to the interns for 30 minutes. it's been a great experience.
not to mention the happy hours friday nights! everyone in DC goes to happy hour after work to try to network/rub elbows with politicians, professors, whoever else. happy hour has taught me that magic hat tastes great on tap, though it tastes like bottled ass if purchased as a 6-pack.
DC has also taught me that the best place to be on sat night is
Busboys and Poets!. i had a blast cruising up and down the street with my fellow women's college ladyfriend in the office (representin' moho and barnard!), popping our heads in jazz clubs and beat boxing contests. ahh so amazing.
i've also narrowed my grad school options while i'm here:
1)
SAIS in DC 2)
Georgetown in DC3)
Fletcher in Bostonand 4)
Monterrey Institute in Kaleefornia As of today, Fletcher's my favorite. Tomorrow may change.
I set up times to sit in on classes/info sessions thru the admissions office of SAIS and Georgetown. I just want to keep my options open.
Liiiife planning is stressful. Bah.
As mentioned earlier, went to Boston around the first of Aug. It was such a delightful trip. Johnny and I had the house to ourselves, the weather was gorgeous, and we went to the Boston aquarium! Although there were far too many chirruns NOT on aderol there, the jellyfish exhibit and the three-story coral reef in the middle was AMAZING. so were the billion penguins. i'm quite impressed. definitely the best aquarium i've been to since the americas in nola. it was so relaxing to get away from DC life for a while (example: we had a party, and people there DIDN'T start conversations with "hi i work for___"). another great thing was i got to see rachel and dan for the first time since february! i had missed them so much!
Okay Time to scoot.
Have a great week, everyone!
