Amsterdam

I went to Amsterdam this weekend for two days and it was so much fun.

First of all, for anyone who doesn't know Amsterdam is in the Netherlands and I'm living in the Netherlands, so it was not very difficult to get to at all. A bus from Well (where I live) to Nijmeigen, a train from Nijmeigen to Amsterdam. It took less than three hours.

Once we got there we walked around taking pictures for a little bit and decided we would hit up the Anne Frank Museum first. They basically turned her house into a Museum and you took the tour room by room and rea segments of her diary as we went. There was also one room that had different versions of her diary in different languages, which was cool. Next we walked on to the Van Gogh Museum. It took us forever to find it, because there aren't very good signs to find it, haha. It was one of the better art museums I've seen. I was extremely moved by the Cezanne piece Mt. Victroix, that I had studied in class only a few days before. It was beautiful in person. Also seeing all of Van Gogh's paintings up close was quite the treat. There were even sections where there was no paint and you could see the canvas. I bought a few of the prints to hang up in my room when I get back. We went out to dinner at a pancake place, but they are not at all like American Pancakes. They were more like crepes. They even made pizza pancakes and calzones out of them. Our pancakes were sooooo good. I never thought I'd be getting those while in Amsterdam. Then we checked into the hotel. We were very scared because the train we took to get to our hotel was going very far out the city, about 13 stops. We were thinking we were gonna end up in the boondocks or dorchester or something, but luckily our hotel was huge and right by the airport. We had to be sketchy about checking in because we made a reservation for two, but brought in 5 people. No problems with that though - it was a holiday inn and no one noticed.

We went back into the city to go out. We went to some bars and some cafes. The first bar we went to, we got complimentary shots from the bartender of some fruity concoction she invented. It reminded me of delphsum cough syrup, but in a good way, haha. We had a lot of drinks and then decided we wanted to really experience Amsterdam and go to a cafe. I had "special tea" and we all smoked a little. Then when we were all fucked up we decided we needed some ice cream. Meredith went up to the guy and asked him where toget ice cream, so he asked her back "what kind do you want?" meaning, a restaurant, store etc. and Meredith just said "Chocolate!!!". It was one of those had to be there moments, but it was still funny. We ended up at this wicked posh Haagen Daaz place. After that we decided to go home early because there was still a lot we wanted to do the next day.

The next morning we were all extremely good about taking quick showers and getting out the door by 9:30. The only problem was that because Amsterdam is such a night life city, no one was really up that early. It took us forever to get breakfast, because a lot of places weren't openned, but when we finally did, it was worth it. It was very good. Then we did canal boat rides. It was me jen & dean in one boat & beth & meredith in the other. Dean was really good at controlling ours, we us two would paddle and jen would navigate. Beth and Meredith had problems with theirs and kept crashing into things. It was wicked funny. All the dutch people sitting outside eating were laughing at them crashing into the walls. They switched their boats and we decided to all meet up later. Then when we were done with the canal boats, we met up at the art museum. dean and i did not want to go to the art museum with the girls, so we found the torture museum. It was awesome! I took pictures of every torture device i saw there. They even had an Iron Maiden. I was so moved I wanted to bow before it, but i felt a little weird, haha. Then after that we still had a lot of time left and decided to go into Madame Toussaud's Wax Museum, because they had a special Captain Jack Sparrow exhibit. So I got my picture with myself allllll overrrrr my husband Captain Jack Sparrow! It was soooo exciting. The rest of the museum was a little weird. It began with a history of the Netherlands with this giant who was made up of random dutch pieces like windmills, clogs, etc. then there was a pirate exhibit that was more like a haunted house. Dean scares easily and hated that part. Then the rest of the Museum was like the normal one in New York. I posed with Prinmce, Madonna, Spice Girls, Ghandi...I even got a picture of myself giving Bon Jovi head (because i already have a picture of me and him in New York). Then we decided to eat and go home. We ate at McD's which was surprisingly a lot like the ones back home. Then we happened to take the train to Nijmeigen that Beth, Jen & Meredith took. We didn't find that out thoguht until we got to the bus station.

On the way home we were on the bus with some of the other girls from the castle and they had a horrible experience in Amsterdam. There were three of them total, but they lost katie at the train station. she took a different train they weren't on and got lost. luckily she found some amazing people who worked for the train to keep her company until her friends showed up. then they didnt have a hotel and had to beg for one. they finally found one and paid for it but it was disgusting. Apparently there was blood on the sheets and it smelled like urine, so they didn't sleep well. It reminded me of the night me and Jen had to sleep outside of the castle. I'm glad our Amsterdam experience was just good.

now it is Wednesday Night. I have a cold. It is American Night so I want to go out and party with everyone. I do not know what I'll end up doing. they do such a shitty job of cleaning that I could either get everyone else sick, or I could catch something even worse from someone else. Hopefully if I do go out I won't feel like shit tomorrow. On one hand I'm thinking...American Night is every Wednesday, it's not like you will miss a one time thing. The other hand is saying...just go out!!!! you know you want to and everyone is gonna be there!!!! so we'll see
