Classic?

So...a buncha people in my office went to see Cars this last weekend.

I personally, really have no interest in seeing it. "Oh, but its so beautiful and cute and funny! I know YOU'D like it!"
I'll probably end up seeing it, but...well...it just doesn't look interesting to me.
Toys story was awesome because it was the first of its kind.
A Bugs Life is my absolute favorite, I love misfit stories(Dave Foley and Kevin Spacey don't hurt either..)
Toy Story 2 was pretty funny but not as good as the original, but made up for it by the Sea of Barbies.
Monsters Inc, yet another sort-of mistfit story. Love it. Not my favorite but it was really cute.
Finding Nemo, great movie. Wonderful story. Deserves all its hype.
The Incredibles,...c'mon. Super heros rock and you know it. "Billy? bobby? Brody?" C'mon.

But honestly. Cars? No. I'm sorry. Not cuttin' it.
Now I'm willing to take this all back if I see it and think "Oh, it was actually pretty good"
but that doesn't seem to likely.
Larry the Cable Guy just isn't that funny. I can only laugh at a fart joke so many times.

Now back to what I started out with.
The people who saw Cars at my office were raving about it. As is expected but these same people raved over Over the Hedge.
Sure, cute animals. Hahaha. It looks dumb. Just because its CG does not make it great.
The reason Pixars movies were so good were because they had wonderful stories to go with the animation. They're movies that you can watch ten years from now and go "haha, what silly bad animation we used to have, but what a great movie." They won't hold up like say...Snow White or Sleeping Beauty, but they're good movies.
At any rate, this lady Crystal claimed "Cars is a complete classic"
And so my mind immediately thinks "Classic? Like...Disney Classic? Alice in Wonderland? Peter Pan? etc etc?"
"In the same category as Shrek and Finding Nemo"

...excuse me? Shrek AND Finding Nemo? SHREK? SHREK?!
I'm sorry. But no. Shrek is amusing at best. Classic, HARDLY.
Oh, haha. She turned into a orge at the end. Hahaha. What fun. Oh! A Wiseass...ass. Hahah. Oh the cleverness of that.
But no.
I wouldn't even consider Finding Nemo a classic. Never in a hundred years would I ever even CONSIDER Shrek a classic.

However, I will say that Puss in Boots in Shrek 2 was pretty damned funny. But only because I'm an adult. I can laugh at the "That's not mine" pot joke. I fully understand that Prince Charming was a raging homosexual with an overdoting mollycoddling mom. If Jennifer Saunders was my mom I'd be gay. It was infintely hilarious when Pinocchio was caught lying about wearing womens underwear. Because I'm not a child.
I'm not saying kids need to be completely kept from disgusting humor and inappropriate movies. Hell, those were some of the best movies I saw as a kid.
Even Disney had material in it that wasn't COMPLETELY kid friendly. But they always kept it in the boundries of good taste. ...that is of course until now. Roseanne as a cow saying "Yeah, they're real" about her udders was almost as tasteless as if she started saying "SUCK MY TEET!"
All these animated movies are spiralling down into one big fart joke and contemporary pop culture reference.
Nothing is timeless anymore.
The American Dream has been humped to death and given birth to a crack baby.

I don't know what I meant by that last line but it sounded cool.

I love my soapbox.

rant, movies
