The Rachel saga
I promised awhile ago that I would post about why Rachel is not my favorite person at the moment, but haven't yet. So if you are still interested, here is the saga...
So, as I said before, Rob has been transferred to Maryland, he and Mel need to sell the house and Chris and I need to find some place else to live. Rachel was given the option of moving down there or Mel would stay here until she graduated and she decide what she wanted to do. She went with that option as she is "in love"tm and wants to move in with the idiot boyfriend as soon as she turns eighteen. She was told in no uncertain terms that we needed her help with packing and getting the house ready for sale, In the next couple of weeks, she totaled her new car (she was fine--left hand turn into on coming traffic because she wasn't taking her meds, either gave them away or sold them), and was never home. Rob finally had enough of it and they got into a screaming match. She went to work and never came back. After a frantic night of calling her friends and the idiot (including his mother who never called back) Rachel finally called Mel and told her that she was an adult and wasn't coming back.
Mel who had already been pulled out of work due to stress and had just found out that the aunt that helped raise her had died, just lost it. Those of you who have met Mel will understand when I say she is the strongest person I have ever met. Seeing her so incredible broken was one of the scariest things I have ever witnessed. She may not have given birth to Rachel but was her mother in every way that matters. Imagine having your daughter tell you that all you have done for her and all of your love means nothing to her. When Rachel talked to her, she was giggling with a friend the entire time.
After that, we didn't from her for a month. She moved in with the idiot and his mother. The idiot who doesn't work, doesn't go to school and gets all of his money from mommy. When Rachel finally did get ahold of Mel, it was through MySpace! She fucking MYSPACED her!!! Got to hear all about how good she is doing and that she is doing chores for idiot's mom (you know, the things she wouldn't do for her own family) and helping pay bills (something idiot doesn't do) Then she wanted to know when she could come get her stuff. Mel basically gave her a list of things she needed to do before she could--things like take care of all the accident things that she just ignored.
Well yesterday she came and got her things. It is the first time I had seen her in months and I was shocked at how angry I still am. Chris and I have put our lives on hold for almost 10 years because we that we were making so kind of difference with Rachel. Instead she decided that what she wanted was more important than helping out her family for 5 more months. Mel ended up being taken out of work and put on disability because of how bad this has messed her up and Lanna is stressed and tearful a lot of the time. She feels like Rachel has deserted her and doesn't understand why she just can't come home. It's tearing me up to watch Monkeygirl go through this. I love Rachel but I just want to shake her and see if I can't knock some sense into her. 5 months and she could have had everything she wanted plus a relationship with her family.
So that's that front.
As for us, we are saving for a down payment and moving in with Ed Becker for about a year. We are going to help him get a lot of work done on his house that he just hasn't had time for. I have already starting helping him go through Karen's things and that had been really rough. Makes me miss her so much!
