Parent got her replacement drivers license, and credit cards today, and she was joking about being a normal human again and being linked into the world again. It made me laugh but also made me wonder what links us into the normal networks of our society. Especially given that ID, and similar requirements have been waived over and over again in the last 2 days.
The recovery process is beginning. The phone is running hot, she has been to the doctor and has a counselling appointment booked, received a list of grants she can apply for, and has so much second hand clothing it's getting silly.
The generosity of friends and strangers have been amazing. From clothes, money, shoes, hugs, ideas, and so much more has been given freely. The desire to solve this massive problem is evident in everyone I've spoken to and I understand the need to do something positive in the face of incredible loss. We all seem to be driven to act, and that in itself is a comfort. Parent's response to people who have not been able to help directly has been to remind them that their concern and messages of love are a help on their own.
There are a lot ideas, big and small moving through Parent's Marysville community from rebuilding sustainablely to creating art mixmedia art projects. They have lost so many friends, and it is that which is hurting the most, but their creativity makes them want to do something to remember those missing. It will be really interesting to see what comes out of this tragedy.
