Near Death Experience

I almost died Saturday on my flight from EWR to SFO. Lightning struck the plane shortly after we took off from San Jose, where we had stopped to refuel and wait out the storm raging over San Francisco International Airport (referred to above as SFO). There were some gasps, and babies cried. I knew this happened sometimes to airplanes, and I told myself over and over that planes just get hit by lighting and nothing happens, but the turbulence that followed the strike shook my confidence. I started trying to think of the worst turbulence I'd ever felt, hoping that it was something I'd already survived, but as it turned out, on Saturday I felt the worst turbulence ever. Is there worse turbulence out there? I'm sure there must be.

My second scariest flight was from Prague to Munich (I don't remember the airport codes, but I think Munich is MUC). That was in a much smaller plane, and the ride was shaky the whole way. People clapped when that flight landed. Nobody clapped when Continental flight 548 landed, and I certainly didn't want to. I just wanted to get out and take BART home, which I did. The weather in New York was much better.

When my alarm goes off tomorrow, after my night of restless sleep, I will sigh and shiver, then wish I were sleeping on Maya's air mattress. Getting ready for work has become a rushed process, and I no longer wake up early enough to give myself the leisurely breakfast and internet browsing I once did. Occasionally I forget my work ID card and only realized it when I'm reaching for my wallet at the BART station. Since I hate not having my swipe card and ID at work, I always turn back home and arrive slightly late.

During this trip I learned that I need to schedule more time off for myself for traveling for short periods. I have several reasons now to leave San Francisco on these jaunts. Actually I've always had many reasons to take time off. I don't think I'm that industrious, but I just don't take much time off unless I've got a cold. I wish I didn't have to fly to get places.

I haven't uploaded to LiveJournal from the website in a long time. Using the web interface I can flag my entry for adult content. This is fantastic! I've just flagged this entry as having "Explicit Adult Content."
