I dont wanna hear nothin about not updating....
According to a recent issue of Newsweek magazine, there is only one abortion clinic in the state of Mississippi. One. Thats right one. For the whole state. One. In order to get an abortion at this clinic, assuming that you get past the protesters and picket lines before you hit your second trimester, when it becomes illegal to get an abortion in that state, you must listen to counseling from the clinicians on adoption, keeping the child, and the religious aspects of the anti abortion movement. Then you have to go home and wait for 24 hours before going back through the picket lines to get your abortion.
According to studies after the waiting period was inacted the numbers of second trimester abortions skyrocketed in mississippi. It was hoped that the law would have the opposite effect, getting women to reconsider there choice and keep the baby. Instead it just helped women procrastinate. So they outlawed second term abortions.
Second term abortions in neighboring states w/ bordering cities have quickly begun to skyrocket.
Women in Mississippi make less than 74 cents per dollar that men make. Black women make approx 50 cents to every dollar white women make.
I guess my message is two fold.
1. Dont move to Mississippi unless its to wage a political war on the men and women in control there.
2. Every time one of us doesnt get out and vote in a presidential election, a bond referendum, a school board election, anything, you make it possible for conservatives and the religious right to sneak in the back door and take over. Because believe me babies, they are coming, and it aint gonna be pretty. Its gonna be scary, and sad, and real! So please Take action, get out, VOTE!!!!!! Protest, get informed, call in to a talk radio show and voice your opinion, write your congressman or senator, donate money to campaigns, or naacp, or aclu,or splc, whatever, just fucking do something...
I may have to live with this administration for now but as god as my witness if I have to watch over every single one of you while you fill out your ballots and become the responsible citizens this country needs you to be.....I WILL NOT GO THROUGH THIS SHIT AGAIN IN FOUR YEARS
