The enticement worked. The officer, who described the encounter, returned four days later to an enthusiastic reception. The grinning chief offered up a bonanza of information about Taliban movements and supply routes -- followed by a request for more pills.
I find this incredibly funny. I'm also embarrassed that it's something that's never occurred to me (yes, I do spend time thinking about things like "how can we be more effective fighting terrorists). Modern technology (pharmaceuticals, electronics, general medical) can work miracles, miracles that people have searched after for thousands of years. That's an incredible tool in the fight against the barbarians. I'm glad that we're using it.
Now that I think of it, I wonder if they're also giving out Rogaine? :-)
