Hey sup people. How ya'll doing. That's good. I'm doing pretty good..hmm, let's see..what's happened recently. Oh, bought Need for Speed: Underground. Holy crap that is such a good racing game. In my eyes it's better then Gran Turismo 3 (3!! I didn't say 4..or the franchise..just..3!!!) It's so cool though, you can customize your cars sooo much. And the cities are wicked too. Awesome graphics too. I love it.
Well today was the Regional Skills Competition at school. I decided to go in for Web Design as my Info Pro teacher recommended it. So yeah, I went in for it. Too bad it started at 8 am, and ran till 4:40. So here's the rundown of what happened!
First off we went to the computer room (Room 231) where we were going to be designing our websites, the Graphic Design challenge was also there. So we got our usernames and password and logged on. Then at 8 am Mrs Kane gave us the sheets that detailed what we were supposed to do. Basically we had to make a website all about the Regional Skills Competition that takes place in Canada. The internet was disabled so that kinda sucked, cause I use the internet alot when designing webpages. They gave us all the information we needed to put on the site, and they also gave us a crapload of pictures. So I started going at it in Photoshop making an intro page first. After that was done I got a feel for what I wanted the layout to look like. At 11:30 we went to the Staff Room for an hour break with subs and drinks. Then we went back at our websites. At 2:55 I finished everything, including the fine touches. We were allowed until 3:00. Haha I was so relieved. So the judges were supposed to judge from 3:00 till 3:30. And then when they were done we would have the awards ceremony bit. Well most of us went to the pit. And at 3:30 the judges didn't show up, then they didn't show up at 3:45, nor at 4:00, or 4:15. Finally at 4:20 the final judges showed up. And thus it started. They went through all the categories and Web Design was of course, last. So they went through it and 3rd place went to Armen Shimoon. Who was the guy who went to Nationals last year. And then my name got called for 2nd. Which was kick ass!!! I wasn't expecting to get in the top 3 actually. I didn't like my site that much in the end...haha. But after I got my medal my Info Pro teacher (Mrs Kane) and one of the judges (who was from Keyano) came over and told me that I only lost by 5 points. The total was out of 155. I got 118, the first place guy got 123. But the really cool thing was this, they told me that all the judges were ready at 3:40, but the two Web Design judges couldn't decide a first place person out of me and the other guy. They had to re-do the judging for both our websites two times. And in the end he beat me out. Another cool thing the judge told me was that my site was really awesome visually, but he beat me out technically. So I beat him visually (the graphics and what not), and he beat me out technically (the coding and other "tech" stuff) So that was really cool, I was happy with second, but to know I was really close to getting first was sooo cool.
So yeah, it was a reaaally cool experience. I got a silver medal and a certificate (which looks GREAT on a portfolio!) This also helped me realize what to go to College (SAIT) for. I was debation between Graphic Design and Web Site Design. And this shows me that I should go with Graphic Design because that is my strong point. But hey, who knows..maybe I'll take both. ;) WAS A GOOD DAY! Oh and hey if you want to see my site I can post it up for you people.
