I spent a good part of this morning shoveling the many inches of snow in the driveway, enough of the patio for Maeve to walk on, and 2/3 of the side sidewalk (then I said, fuck the front sidewalk! no one uses it anyway!). So then I was tired and really smelly so I have been having a lovely day in. I hate snow. It's all, "Look at me! I'm so pristine and fluffy! And now I am going to ruin everything!"
Last night I made the Portobello Seitan Stroganoff from VwaV, except I didn't have any seitan so I just used vegan beef crumbles. Next time I go shopping, I will buy a bunch of vital wheat gluten and then I will make seitan! Anyway, the stroganoff is AMAZING. We used to eat stroganoff fairly often when I was younger and when I went vegetarian my dad edited the recipe a bit, but I like this new one so much better! Namely because there are portobello mushrooms in it (one of my favorite foods) and peas (which add a nice touch of color). Those are two things that my dad refuses to eat, so they were never in the recipe (well, I guess he technically is allergic to peas and soy, so he couldn't eat it anyway. But he hates mushrooms just on principle.).
Then I made cupcakes that are chocolate on one side and vanilla on the other, topped with buttercream frosting dyed a minty green color. Then there are green sprinkles and cow sprinkles. I am still getting used to using food dye so things aren't coming out quite properly. But I feel like there is a fine line between brightly colored frosting and frosting that stains your teeth and makes your co-workers hate you.
Oh, and I made baked bbq tofu today! I froze the tofu first, which I've never done before, and it definitely did have a pleasant effect on the texture. I didn't like the baked tofu on its own, but when I put it on a hamburger bun... mmm! And I made the barbecue sauce instead of using some from a bottle. I am fancy!
I am trying to keep myself from eating more of the stroganoff so that it will last through next week but... I mean... it's really delicious and I want to put it all in my mouth right now.
I need to make some cooking icons. There is a necklace by Leviticus Jewelry that is of miniature measuring spoons, aww. Edit: I just bought the necklace because I have no self-control it was $10 off and today was the last day of that sale so it must have been a sign, duh!
