Well, I was a a Durannie too, and always thought that Spandau were a bit naff, but all's forgiven now. And as Spandau's songs go, "Gold" was probably the best. I remember it getting played on UK TV coverage of the Olympics, any time we won a medal. And besides, Tony Hadley is a diamond geezer (also being from the same neck of the woods as myself).
But what Duran song would you pick as Britian's national anthem? Planet Earth, maybe?
lol Dorky me, I forgot my ;) at the end. I'd not presume to pick an anthem..I just read your post and my brain presented me with a picture of a gold medalist dancing to the song on top of the podium, with the silver and bronze medalists singing backup vocals. It'd sure make medal ceremonies more interesting.:)
Hee hee! That's okay! That's an interesting image, and a lot better than the slow-motion footage of British sprinters crossing the finish line that usually accompanies "Gold"!!!!!
Excellent choice but why stop there? How about Hadley for President?
I finally got round to getting my ticket for Stonehenge, so provided I haven't been handed out my driving ban by then, I'll be seeing you on the 11th :)
I hope you won't take this the wrong way, but I am really worried about being able to have overnight visitors on May 11th. I would still like to see you, but I really don't think I can put you up, or drink alcohol. I can help you find a B&B though.
I have been so tired and ill lately (see my previous post about DLA and social services withdrawing my care and its effects on my health), that I just don't think I can cope. I'm sorry.

As a Yank that was quite the staunch Durannie in the eighties, I gotta say, this is so hilariously wrong.
