Read This. Also, I'm playing around with the header a bit, since I'm in my own sandbox now. It might take me a little while to figure what I prefer, but suggestions are welcome. I was never really a fan of deleterius'.

Seriously, what is it with Sues and having alcoholic, abusive fathers that kill their moms (or become that way after the mom dies)? It’s like, it’s either that, or they don’t have any parents at all. I don’t think I’ve ever found a Sue with a decent set of parents (or just one). If it’s not either of the two scenarios above, then it’s that we just never hear a word about the Sue’s parentage and/or simply never know anything about her parents other than the fact that she has them (and they’re probably well-to-do). That might explain why these children go off to pursue all of these parasitic, co-dependent relationships. And yeah, you’re totally right, she’s way more concerned about her school issues than the fact that her mother died at her father’s hands.

Lucius nodded. “Are you still virgin?” He asked.Ugggghhhh….I don’t think I can express fully how much that line creeped me out…or how pissed off I was at the dumb Sue for just blushing and not immediately running the fuck away or at least slapping Lucius for being so indelicate (I ( ... )

I think it comes down to two reasons:

1. Convenience. Parents have this nasty habit of telling us that we can't do stupid shit like go on a quest to defeat the Dark Lord (one of the major reasons why Harry had to be an orphan) or marry a man old enough to be our father (probably why this Sue had to kill off the last relative that gave a shit about her). Even if they don't ban the main character from going off on an adventure, their presence is often a threat because the bad guys could use them against the main character (see Hermione's need to get rid of her parents at the start of DH) or having them be still alive would give the character an emotional motivation not to leave on the epic quest/marriage/whatever, because people like their parents and the idea of never seeing them again would bother most teenagers, whether they want to admit it or not. This is an understandable reason to remove the parents from the picture, or at least I think so ( ... )

Well, yes, that does make sense. Still though, the character of Harry Potter is not remotely free of the natural repercussions that follow losing one's parents. It's a painful, emotional wound that follows him all of his life (though it may heal more with time) and he technically, really didn't even know them. The same goes with Hermione, until she's able to get her parents back. These Sues, on the other hand, never show the appropriate amount of trauma a normal person would be expected to. I guess I'm criticizing not so much the usage of it as a plot device, but more the fact that Suethors never take the 'negatives' of said device into consideration ( ... )

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that Rowling was wrong for using this trope. I've used it myself a few times in original works. It does exist for a reason. It's just not used well in Suefic. Like you said, they want all of the advantages without any of the pain that would actually come from losing one of your parents.

I can see how it would be creepy anyway (like I said, my biological father who has never been out of my life for more than a few months at a time asked me that question, and I had a much stronger reaction than the Sue. It's an invasive question no matter who is asking it.) but if I'm understanding this story correctly, she's been confiding in Lucius for a while now, and he's been the only adult (save professors, which is a different matter entirely) in her life for six years now. Again, though, this makes Lucius' actions here really fucking creepy, whether the Sue thinks so or not.

Well, given J.K. Rowling's apparent hatred of this character, I think she'd wholeheartedly approve. XDVery true! Lol, Rowling's hatred of ( ... )

Some comments about the sue:

Violet eyes? No! You're not allowed to have violet eyes! VIOLET EYES BELONG TO MY RUSSIA

Singing and dance? You shame me. Go spread your "talent" elsewhere. (Also, voice magic? WTF?)
