So, tumblr is cutting off all the adult content which - as is so often the case - cutting off their foot to get rid of toe fungus.
I will fucking DIE LAUGHING if the tumblr purity crisis leads to people coming back to Dreamwidth, I am not even kidding.
I am here, I never left even though I never used it - and I'm also at the pillowfort, and I'm not going anywhere because I am and was old guard and that shit aint changing any time soon. I'm too tired for that shit.
I'm also on the pillowfort.io under dancinbutterfly. Come find me. I am looking for people to follow as its a baby site that has a lot of the functionality of tumblr (photo hosting, video, reblogging) but is fan owned and operated. Or you can just hit me up here. I'm always on AO3 as dancinbutterfly too. I'm also on twitter and that is the only place i'm NOT dancinbutterfly cuz someone fucking got there before me - so there i'm @fandombutterfly but whatever! Regardless, I'm a crusty ass barnacle who has been in fandom for close to 20 years. You'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands.
Personally, I think its a good thing. Tumblr was breeding an internal toxicity i'd never seen before and as a corporate culture it was reminding me of shit that was a big red flag when LJ sold.
So basically? We were due for a shift to a fan-owned and fan-operated platform - whether that's DW, PF or something else I dont really care so long as it's something that fans built.
To the young ones and new blood of fandom: if this is your first platform shift. Grab yourself a raincoat to keep the shit off you and a suitcase for your old posts and buckle up. It's a rough transition that's going to be super uncomfortable for about...eh...6-8 months but then you'll settle in wherever you land with your clan. You'll get through this fine. You will lose some old friends and gain some new ones but the world is not going to end. It's going to be just fine. I promise.
Tell me where you're going and under what name in the comments.
