DRIVEBY RECS!

1. August and Everything After by (Anonymous for now but when I find out who wrote it? OMG THEY WILL GET SUCH A HUG FROM ME!)
Fandom: Static Shock
Pairing: Virgil Hawkins/Richie Foley
Summary: This is the story of how Richie Foley fell in love with his best friend and never ever told him.

Rec: This was my Yuletide gift! Totally unexpected levels off awesome are contained with in this fic. If you're like me and you loved Static Shock, oh, ever, and you were wondering why Virgil and Richie never hooked up, this is so the fic for you. It's charming and funny and has a really strong grip on the character voices and canon. Read it. Go now. It's wonderful.

2. Beyond the Void by (Anonymous for now)
Fandom: Hellboy 2
Pairing: Agt. John Myers/Prince Nuada
Summary: Some days Myers stares into the Void, and some days the Void stares back into him. And, then, some days the Void spits out naked elves that hold Myers hostage, mess with his head, and make him seriously question his sexuality.

Rec: I...what? I dont know, you guys, this one blindsided me hard and then took me for a freaking ride. But oh, what a ride. Taken from a throwaway line in HB2 about how Myers got transfered to Antarctica and mixed with a SG-1/SGA-ish vibe that makes me nostalgic and impressed all at once, this fic made me REALLY BELIEVE a pairing I would never ever EVER have imagined in a million years. It's so well written and sharp and funny and bloody and horrific that when it finally ended I was left wanting more. So much more. Nuada was as big an ass as he was in the movie but she dug deeper and made him relatable. And Myers was Myers which is the best compliment I can pay. Give this a try. It's engrossing. I promise that even if you don't ship them, you wont be able to look away.

3. Way to a Man's Heart by (Anonymous for now)
Fandom: A Knight's Tale
Pairing: Wat/Chaucer
Summary: Wat evaluates his priorities and begins to realize there is more to life than just a full stomach.

Rec: Organized by food, this is just...lovely. It's lovely and it gets Paul Bettany's Chaucer voice down so well it's a little scary. The seduction of the clueless Wat is funny and sweet and poignant and charmed me thoroughly. I melted when I read this and I think you will too.

recs, yuletide
