HI!
I left Dragon*Con yesterday and returned to my parents' house, where, unfortunately, my mother's Internet connection is having strange problems, as per the usual. We think we've run the problem down to the router and are going to get a new one and see how that goes; in the meantime, there's no wireless and the only way I can get online is by perching my laptop on 2 feet of stacked receipts and assorted other paperwork on her desk and plugging directly into her dodgy router. It teeters back and forth while I type: stable! And I am suddenly feeling extremely neat and organized, and realizing that it's all genetic.
Con report, in brief:
* Jason Momoa in glasses: HOT.
* Michael Shanks and Lexa Doig: ADORABLE.
* Christopher Judge: Christopher Judge. He's not just a man, he's an experience.
* Dante's Cove: the worst television show ever made, forever.
* Claudia Black: unbelievably awesome. Her magic hair cured
brynnmck's and my hangovers. This is a true story.
* Standing in line for at least half the weekend: not as much fun as it sounds.
* Con crud: developing nicely. I really hope I don't end up being Patient X for everybody I spent time with.
* Getting to meet and hang out with
pellucid and
sugargroupie and
kernezelda and
bheerfan and
thomasina75: wonderful. (Am I forgetting anyone? I feel like I'm forgetting someone. See above re: con crud.)
* Getting to see
asta77 and
brynnmck and
sdwolfpup and
molly_may for the entire weekend: beyond awesome. Except for the Dante's Cove part. There might be forgiveness issues. And it was especially nice of
molly_may to put up with our gushing about Claudia Black without informing security.
I'll put together a more detailed report at some point, and hopefully will actually be able to post it before I return home. In general, this year was vastly more crowded than last year. I don't know what the official attendance figures were, but I'd estimate there were at least a third more people; there were lines for everything, and I ended up missing some panels because I was standing in line to get a good seat for other panels, and the Hyatt was insanely crowded, and there were fire marshall issues, and in general getting through the day and negotiating space with that many other people was an exhausting struggle. I usually don't like crowds; I rarely even go to concerts anymore; and was teetering right on the edge of what I could handle through most of it. I hope they limit ticket sales next year; they simply do not have room for more than X number of people, and I'm sure the city of Atlanta will have something to say about the fire department and paramedic resources the con used this year. I'm also sure this wasn't intentional, and that the D*C organizers were as surprised as anybody by the attendance. It seems like con-going, like so many other aspects of fandom, is becoming a more widespread, mainstream activity.
