One thing I have in common with Cameron Mitchell is that we both fail at pants

Why are my new jeans practically falling off me today?!? They should be the right size! They fit when I first tried them on. Which was, admittedly, before Christmas. I should not be able to pull them down over my hips without unfastening them. Did I manage to do something freakish like lose 10 pounds over the holidays? And now I've worn them ( Read more... )

I wish I could do my hobby for work, but I doubt anyone is going to pay me to sit at home to be the queen of BSG fandom.

That week before DC is going to be the hardest because it seems to be the time we are most likely to be bitten in the ass. But if they all show, can you imagine a BSG vs SG1 panel? Eeeeee!!!

I scanned Wil Wheaton's blog and, yeah, some funny stuff. I've bookmarked it for later reading.

I haven't watched SG-1 yet, but I'll get back to you.

I know! If only someone would pay us to watch television full-time. What an injust world.

When I picture a potential SG-1 versus BSG panel, I also picture the awful introduction by the track coordinator, unfortunately, though I'm sure it couldn't be as scary as the Trek Trak people.

Just remembered! Did you hear about the deal Sci-Fi cut with DirectTV to sponsor BSG? I'm thinking this makes a Season 4 more likely. If so, I'm willing to put up with ads during the podcast.

I have read about it since you posted this and--huh. I think you're right, it's another thing that anchors SciFi to the show. Though I have a really difficult time picturing how this will be a great thing for DirecTV. People are pretty well aware that they can get the SciFi channel from a number of sources; they are increasingly aware that they can get SciFi channel programming from even more sources, and I just don't see how DirecTV is going to reap some windfall from ads.

Do any of you do your work for a hobby and vice versa?

I guess I do, since my job consists of 1. watching movies and writing press releases about them and 2. a whole lot of photoshopping/webdesigning for the company's website.

It sounds like a lot of skills transfer between the two, which is what I think the post was getting at. I envy not having that kind of boundary between work and play, but also have a hard time imagining it.

I read an academic article this week in which the writer raised a whole lot of interesting questions and then pretty much dropped them, not even attempting to answer many of them. And I thought, hmm, this technique is familiar. Oh yes: Stargate ( ... )

Hee! "Hm, where have I seen this before?"

I pretty much adore all permutations of the Sam and Cam relationship at this point: friends, teammates, lovers, whatever. It all works. It wasn't something I expected at all when I heard Browder was joining the show, and it has been such a treat. And I love that while Sam doesn't have an arc exactly this season, she does have a lot of great character moments.

But long ago my hobby used to be reading. And then I turned that hobby into a job, and it was about that time that I acquired a new hobby: fandom. Now obviously I still read non fannish things for fun, and I do a lot of reading and writing with my fandom participation, but I do try to keep a sharp distinction between the different kinds of reading and writing and even thinking involved. It's ( ... )

Heh. While I have no real interest in seeing Jamie Bamber myself, I think it will be fun just to see Asta see Jamie Bamber.;)

I would rather chew my own arm off than watch a show that has anything to do with football,

You are me; we are the same.

Do any of you mix profession and free time?

Well, my "career" (to use the term loosely) was certainly influenced by my love of books. However, it is hampered by my dislike of customers. Still, to almost quote Asta, I'm waiting for someone to pay me for being the Queen of BTVS Fandom.

Oh, I think that will be my primary source of entertainment.

There needs to be a foundation.
