Well, I knew right away that the woman was signing "friend," not "fiend" (although Veronica's hasty misinterpretation really says something about how she sees her mother now, and what she's afraid of learning about her then), but I did not see the Meg pregnancy coming. It certainly explains why her parents were so furious with Duncan, if they assume it's his (and this seems like a reasonable assumption, given what we know at this point). It also makes Meg's reaction to Veronica getting back together with Duncan more understandable; it seemed really over the top at the time, but if she knew she was pregnant (maybe from that time on the beach?), it's actually pretty tame. But I suspect it remains to be seen whether or not it's Duncan's, and whether or not he knew about it before the bus crash (and if so, if he found out before or after he dumped Meg for Veronica).
I adored Clemmons and Veronica snarking, and the fact that Clemmons knew exactly how to maneuver Veronica into producing the results he wanted. The adversarial relationships on this show are really interesting because they tend to be motivated a lot by circumstance; people who are at odds in one episode can work together in another for a common goal, even if they don't like or trust each other. That's also happening with Logan and Weevil, who will hopefully be a more regular presence now. It's interesting that Logan and Duncan, who are economic peers, have a friendship that has obviously gone back a long time, but Logan and Weevil are in some ways far more similar in their misplaced anger and their isolation.
I thought the way the different baby and child/parent storylines were tied together in this episode was rather neat, with the pregnancy rumor from many years ago, the baby abandoned in a bathroom at prom, Meg at the end with her own unplanned pregnancy, Trina discovering her birth mother and Duncan fighting with his and Veronica trying to puzzle out what hers was like in the past Veronica toting that babydoll around like a football through the whole thing.

I rec fics! Stargate fics. Shut up!
For
fer1213, via
cofax7's excellent recommendation,
a lovely Cameron/Vala story that I think really draws out what little we know of Cameron Mitchell at this point. No explicit smut, but hot, and very lyrical. (ETA: link fixed!)
Also via
cofax7,
a terrific Daniel/Vala story with a surprising amount of plottiness (well-developed, beautifully described plottiness) for an alleged PWP, and excellent banter.
And via
brynnmck (and this is one of the many reasons I adore you),
more good Daniel/Vala smuttiness with banter. I am a sucker for the banter.

We're having our first band of real winter storms right now. When I first moved to Northern California, it took me a long time to adjust to the fact that it doesn't rain here in the summer at all. Now, though, dark, stormy days and heavy rains are tied to winter in my mind. Unfortunately, CalTrain really puts the Cal in train--the platforms are all open-air--so I see a lot of soggy pants hems and general dampness in my future.
It's always hard to do a full workweek after a short week. It feels so looooong. It doesn't help that right now I'm dealing with a lot of little miscellaneous tasks and not making any progress on big projects until I get them done. But tomorrow is Friday, and I'm hoping to usher in the weekend by seeing Aeon Flux with D. and Mrs. D before I spend the rest of it doing all of the household chores I couldn't do last weekend.
