Behind on everything except for an obvious weather observation

I'm back from the family reunion. The TiVO runneth over and I was sitting right in the middle of a swarm of infants and toddlers on the flight from Atlanta to San Francisco, and in my experience, children that age can handle about 3.5 hours max of an afternoon flight before things start getting hairy. That flight is 4.5 hours. I was counting on ( Read more... )

Coincidentally, I went to Flip Burger in Atlanta last week! However, I didn't eat anything, although the menu looked very intriguing, because I was on a drinking excursion with a friend. So I had the pear martini that's on the menu and some orange cream drink that's not on the menu and no food. I would like to go back and try it sometime, though.

I don't suppose Flip Burger is anywhere near where will be staying during DC? And now I'm starving!

I was wondering about that! Although the Flip in Birmingham is in an upscale suburban mall, and I'm guessing they have a similar location strategy in Atlanta.

It's actually not too far away, about four miles or so. I could fit three other people into my car, four if three people don't mind squeezing into the backseat together...

Funny! I had a mango martini and it was pretty good, although I thought the liquid nitrogen thing was kind of gimmicky. I didn't see a pear martini on our menu or I would have gotten it instead. Mmmmm, pear.

GASP! We were told that they had been forced to stop doing the liquid nitrogen thing due to some sort of federal regulation. That was actually the whole reason we ended up at Flip Burger, because my friend had been there before and thought the liquid nitrogen was fun.

Oh, and regarding your original post, I wanted to say that the heat down here has been UNBEARABLE for a month. It's supposed to drop into the 80s next week, so my fingers are crossed that it will improve.

Not true, not true. Perhaps your server was confusing federal and state laws? In any case, all you missed out on was a layer of bubbling froth that made it impossible to taste your drink for 5 minutes after it was brought to the table, and gave it a tough layer of icy skin. And possibly upped the price $3 or $4 because I don't think the $10 martini has yet made it to that part of the country otherwise.

I really hope so. GOD. I remember a random field trip I did in 6th grade to a traditional farmhouse with a breezeway down the middle, and all I could think when I was there this time was that you'd be lying in your underwear on the wood floors praying for death to take you quickly in a house like that in this weather.
