Now I know what I'm making for Thanksgiving: Pear Gruyere Pie, inspired by Pushing Daisies (DAMN YOU, ABC!!). Minus, obviously, the herbal antidepressants

It's so odd reading your Office recaps and knowing what you are talking about.
I feel as you do about Pam's decision to quit art school. Having been to art school myself I understand having very little interest in a particular area of study, and I have to agree with her feelings about graphic design, but why not take some painting or drawing classes? What about a career in illustration? Or teaching? She just gave up too easily. The problem is, besides Jim, she still doesn't know what she wants.
I loved Oscar and Andy hanging out. And there are very few straight guys that would attempt to pick up a guy for there gay friend. Given how well they got along, it made me wonder what might happen when Andy wises up or Angela dumps him. Have I ruined the show for you now? ;)

The problem is, besides Jim, she still doesn't know what she wants.I think one of Pam's biggest problems is that she takes the things that fall into her lap, because she's scared of going out there and trying for the unknown. The graphic design program was something someone put her on to, and she tried it and found out she didn't like it. But it was in New York, and it was a real program. She has taken art classes around Scranton, but I think for what she needs to do, she'd have to make huge changes in her life to take classes somewhere where she'd really learn something, and she's clearly not ready to do that. (Her face, when Alex was telling her that she really needs to move to New York if she wants to do art--and he was talking about art, not graphic design--was really telling.) And yes, she does know one thing she wants; Jim is the easy part now. Oh Pam

As always, I enjoy your Office thoughts. I felt similarly about the art school storyline(i ranted about it twice in my LJ, heh), but I do disagree with one sentiment. I don't feel Pam gave up. Did she decide graphic design was not for her? Yes. The program she was part of was for that, she wasn't enrolled in Pratt, so it's not like she could change her major. I would've liked if the show had actually shown her struggling to show us how she went from a prof telling her she was doing well to failing. But I guess a program CAN do that, I just found it too easy the way they did that

I don't think there's evidence that she's given up on her art entirely. I do think she got discouraged, but I also think she decided she didn't like graphic design.I think the fact that Jim making an art studio for her touched her so much showed that she hasn't given up on her art entirely, and I don't think I argued she has. (Although I did call the graphic design program art school, which was wrong--it as a specialized program.) But the graphic design program was a clear path that was laid out for her, and I think it's a lot easier for her to act on that kind of opportunity than to try to create her own, especially since it means making big scary decisions and taking risks. I do think she's pulled back into a place of safety, after she discovered she couldn't go through with what she'd thought at one point she wanted, though, and that's really disappointing--especially since, for all his finer qualities, I think Jim makes it easier for her to pull back in some ways. And I think it's going to take a long time for her to start
