Wow, you finished dS! I was wondering where you were with that. So I will say:

- How hot were Stephanie Romonov and Paul Gross together? HOLY CRAP. That should not be legal.

- I loved your thoughts on Kowalski. He's such a great character, and CKR plays him so very well. I think he gets the best arc of any of the characters in those last seasons, and it's a nice grounding influence. Though I also love that he is a ginormous, goofy spaz. I don't think CKR gets enough credit for his comedic skills.

- MotB is popular in dS fandom for slashy reasons, mainly. I think everyone sort of agrees that the plot is ridiculous. I mean, I sort of embrace it at the end, when they're having the battle between the ships, but I am a sucker for a naval battle! And the episode as a whole sort of strikes me as an extended "Red, White, or Blue" remix, with fake pirates and jet packs. Which I am not sure were strictly necessary. Hee. However--and this is true of most of S4 for me--the actors are clearly having so much fun that I really want to be having fun along with them. (Just... jetpacks, Paul? Really?) (You should check out SDW's Mountanic vidlet, though, now that you've seen MotB. It's hysterical.)

- I wanted Frannie to be a cop! I mean, she would be a terrible cop (despite her awesomely effective interrogation technique), but it was nice to see her developing a bigger picture.

- I love, love, love CotW. LOVE. (Except I think Vecchio gets kind of screwed, getting left out of the second half, and the extremely rushed and OTT love-at-first-sight with Stella. [I can actually totally see Vecchio and Stella together--Stella is exactly his type. Just the way it was handled bugged me.] But I have issues.) I love Vecchio's return, obviously, and how he slots right back into his old partnership with Fraser, and the way he and Kowalski snark and spark and end up working so well together. And for Kowalski, that moment in the crevasse, when they're stuck and Fraser's singing and Kowalski's got his head tipped back and his eyes closed, and he realizes he wants to go an adventure... I'm never happier for Kowalski in the whole series than I am right there. He's finally growing up and moving forward and wanting to figure out who he is, and I love that. And Fraser. Wow, CotW is amazing for Fraser. Like you said, it brings so many things full circle, Fraser returning to Canada hunting the killers of his mother, and finally truly resolving his relationship with Bob, too, which has driven so much in the series, and then Bob moving on. That moment between them, when Bob is leaving and Fraser says "I thought you were permanent" and Bob says, "Oh, son. Nothing's permanent"? Man, I'm getting choked up now just thinking about it. Beautiful, beautiful ending, and perfect and right. "And life continues." I love that. Yay, CotW.

And now you should really watch my two favorite dS vids: pipsqueaky's and laurashapiro's Goody Two Shoes, which is hilarious and extremely clever and altogether awesome, and sdwolfpup's now-famous You Can Call Me, which is the most beautiful and perfect love letter to the show I can imagine.

And YAY for plane tickets!!!

I think I got through half of the remaining episodes that one weekend where I had the terrible cold. Without many new shows on at this point, I'm mostly watching DVDs in my TV-watching time now. Up next: Slings & Arrows.

He's such a great character, and CKR plays him so very well. I think he gets the best arc of any of the characters in those last seasons, and it's a nice grounding influence.

One of the things I really liked both about Ray K's character arc and "Call of the Wild" in general was the circularity. Ray was introduced as Ray Vecchio, having stepped into his life; he had to build his own relationship with Fraser, though. So having the real Ray Vecchio show up to reclaim his place was just perfect, both to give us a chance to say Hi to Ray V and to give Ray K the motivation he needed to start carving out his own life, as whatever he has become, which was not Stanley Kowalski, but isn't really Ray Vecchio either. The whole issue of identity played out so well there.

(And Ray V's part in "Call of the Wild" was a little rushed, and a little segregated from the rest of the action, but I hadn't expected to see him again at all. And since both Rays were the sarcastic half of the Ray/Fraser duo, it was intensely amusing to see how different their styles of sarcasm are when they actually met face-to-face.)

Yes, exactly! It's very neatly done.

Heee, yes. They're so alike in some ways, and very different in others. (I'm totally suppressing my whole Ray/Ray ship manifesto right now. I want you to appreciate my effort. Hee.) It's kind of amazing how weirdly connected they are, given their lack of screen time together--so when they meet, there's the jockeying for position, but there's also the fact that they get things about each other that no one else is going to get. The undercover thing, the experience of being Fraser's partner--I love the idea of them getting together for a beer and going, "He licked what?" and "He helped who?" and comparing baking accident scars and whatnot, for HOURS. And I think when Fraser claps them on the shoulders and says "I knew you'd get along," he's not kidding or being naïve; he's actually right--they go from shoving and arguing to working together very quickly. It's a neat dimension to the Ray switch that makes me that much gladder they brought Vecchio back.

I liked that they immediately connected as cops, because that is such a strong part of both of their identities, and the way they both connected to Fraser at first. I totally agree with you that FRaser wasn't kidding or being naive, and you could tell that he was more pleased than anything in the world that he was right.

Yes! It's totally that thrill you get when two of your friends hit it off, only even more so because they're his family, them and Maggie, and I would imagine he's just overjoyed that they like each other. (If unsurprised, I think, knowing them both as well as he does.)

It makes me really happy.
