Today is
International Talk Like a Pirate Day! But what I want to know is, what about the ninjas? Why is there no International Talk Like a Ninja Day? Sure, it would probably be really quiet, but still. Ninjas need love too.

I have missed so many birthdays lately. A (in some cases really, pathetically belated) birthday to
sweet_ali, and
pukajen,
lillianmorgan and
skylee,
ascian3 and
vonnie_k.
And a very happy birthday, today, to
amberlynne!

- There was good and bad at D.'s last Friday. The baby is learning to throw things, and the dog loves to fetch, so D. is thisclose to achieving a perfectly self-contained entertainment system for both of them; on the other hand, Flash Gordon is apparently too cheap to have actual hawkmen, and must resort to guys in pleather capes who leap into the air offscreen to save the cost of the wire stunts. It was genuinely pathetic.
- As if the return of the skinny jean weren't bad enough, apparently platforms are out and ballet flats are in. Terrific. This is going to be a rough couple of years for stumpy-legged people like me.
- Deputy Dog has a fascinating post on 7 amazing holes. (Yes, actual holes.)
- I've seen a few links to this around, but for those of you who don't know, LJ is going to track user behavior on the site with Omniture. You have to opt out. (Thanks to morgandawn for the heads up.)
- And speaking of LJ business, I told D. about the new LJ CEO being a founder of Red Herring and then we cackled like hyenas for about twenty minutes, because that was one of the more memorable and spectacular South of Market dot-bust flameouts in a year full of them.
- I have finally seen all of the second half of Season 1 of Jericho, and my goodness, once the show really embraced the difficult and painful implications of its premise, it took off. Without ever completely losing the godawful "heartwarming" musical montages, of course. Unfortunately, the CBS website fall schedule doesn't show any Season 2 episodes, so I'm guessing they're holding off until mid-season?
- I am watching the second episode of Dante's Cove tomorrow night. HELP ME.
- I am really looking forward to the start of the fall TV schedule, particularly Season 4 of The Office. As far as new shows go, I'm planning to test-drive Pushing Daisies and Bionic Woman (although both are apparently having problems coming in at budget, and I've heard things about other problems on the Bionic Woman set, including the mysterious departure of one of the key creative people, and that's not encouraging). I've heard good things about Chuck, so I'm considering it, but... I work at a software company, and a lot of my RL friends are programmers or otherwise heavy into the geek, and I think it might either hit too close to home or push my willing suspension of disbelief to the breaking point. In any case, coming soon to this journal: actual fannish content!
