Ski Tripping

Jan 09, 2005 14:53

I got back from the ski trip late late Friday night/early Saturday morning. We actually got into Toledo at 11pm on Friday, but with the ice and snow storms and extreme cold Toledo suffered during our absence, Brad had a flat back left tire and frozen fuel lines. Once he unfroze the fuel lines, the battery died so we had to wait for a jump from the rest of the convoy, which we had been ahead of by almost 2 hours because we hadn't made more than 3 stops the whole 12 hour drive.

We had a lot of fun though, aside from a few unpleasant experiences... like the first day. We were supposed to have an indoor hot tub, but it had been broken for weeks and weeks, so they'd put in this kiddy-pool-looking-thing in the driveway that took forever to heat up and took no time to cool down. It didn't snow until Thursday, so there wasn't really enough snow to go sledding (Brad and I couldn't afford to go skiing). Plus, the house was far less... luxurious... than we expected. Brad and I were supposed to have a queen-sized bed but only ended up with a double... which didn't end up being as bad as when the two of us tried sleeping in my double bed back in the day, so that's okay.

It was funny because no matter how late we stayed up, I always woke up at 11am without an alarm because I had a room with windows and it was sunny and I actually felt *rested*.

Anyway, the first day... Brad and I are on each other's bad sides since we've pretty much been like that over break, being around each other constantly, and then suffering through a 14 hour drive there (because we travelled as a group with 4 other cars and made a LOT of stops and everybody was being really bitchy about it). SO we pretty much did our separate things that night. He and Gene (one of the pledges... he's a graduate student though, so he's older than everyone else) went to the pizza place which was literally next door because all the roads were shut down because of an ice storm and there was really nothing else to do than hang around the cabin. Turned out, the pizza place had closed early because all the roads were closed and they had no business, and the employees were doing their parts by finishing off the kegs in the store. I fell asleep watching "Robin Williams Live on Broadway" until one of the other guys wakes me up and asks if Gene or Brad have come back from getting pizza yet because it's been almost 2 hours and nobody can get ahold of Gene. I'm like... shit... he's drunk, he got hit by a car with the roads being so icy and I don't know where he is. I try to call Gene's cell phone and I finally get through to him. Gene and Brad are both completely trashed and apparently can't figure out how to operate Gene's phone anymore and don't realize the phone is on already...
Gene answers the phone, "Brad, shit, it's your girlfriend."
Brad says, "Oh shit, it's Emily ::pause:: Hi, Babe!"
I say, "Where the *fuck* are you?"
Brad says, "They're having a party at the pizza place."
I say, "You've been gone almost two hours and you never said you were going to a *party--"
and the phone cuts out, and I think he hung up on me, so I start crying and go up to my and Brad's room. Brad comes barreling back to the cabin because there's no more phone signal and he can't call back, and when he gets back, everybody tells him I'm super-pissed at him. He comes upstairs, where I'm still crying and we result in an altercation that causes him to decide to go back downstairs and pass out under the pool table.
After a bit, I go down to the pool table and try to convince him to get out from under the pool table and all he does is yell at me, "Get away from me! Leave me alone!"

I was absolutely devastated.

Eventually, somehow, he came out from under the pool table and made it back to bed, and everything's fine now... I'll post more later. More stories, better stories, happier stories. This was the Ski Trip.
