Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Lenalee Lee is an Exorcist of the Black Order, a religious organization that specializes in destroying Akuma, demonic weapons created from lost souls by the Millennium Earl. Exorcists destroy the Akuma with a material known as Innocence, a holy substance that can be shaped into any kind of weapon imaginable and comes in several types. Along with being an Exorcist, Lenalee is very athletic. She is a lot stronger than her fragile looks suggest, and not to be taken lightly just because she’s a teenage girl.

Weapons: Lenalee’s piece of Innocence is an equipment-type known as the Dark Boots. When dormant, the Boots look nothing more than slippers coupled with a pair of sexy black thigh-highs. When activated, they become a deadly weapon that can make her fly, and she can literally kick her enemies to death. If she kicks hard enough, she can even create whirlwinds. As she becomes stronger, she is able to use sound waves as jumping platforms and walk on water.

However this power is taken from her after her fight with the level-3 Akuma Eishi, and her Innocence vanishes somewhere inside her body, appearing only when she is in mortal danger. Not as convenient as it sounds, considering it traps her in a pillar of crystal. When the Ark storyline is over and she goes back home, Hevleska takes her Innocence away completely. When a level-4 Akuma attacks home, killing many innocent people, Lenalee takes her Innocence back. Now the Dark Boots take on a new form, residing in her blood. When dormant, her weapon is in the form of a red ring and a stigmata on each of her ankles. When activated, they become a pair of kick-ass crimson stilettos. Thus far, these new Dark Boots are controlled by her emotions, allowing her to use stronger power the more passionate she becomes. They even form little butterflies at her heels enabling her to fly at even greater heights.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Her past is not a fun one. She was born in China on February 20th 18-something (canon never actually specifies what year the story takes place, just the end of the 19th century). Her parents were killed by Akuma when she was three, and so she was raised by her devoted older brother, Komui. When she was six, men from the Black Order came, saw that she was compatible with Innocence, destined to become an Exorcist, and took her away. It was then that Lenalee had viewed the Order as a prison. Not much is known about her time there. She doesn’t talk about it much, only gave Allen Walker a brief overview in vague detail during their mission together in Rewinding Town. What is known is that she had seen horrible experiments going on within the Order and that she had been terrorized by one of the Order’s head haunchos, Malcolm C. Leverrier, a man whose presence still petrifies her to this day. It has not been revealed in canon yet what exactly he had done to her, but considering all the other shit she had seen in her later years that doesn’t shake her so much, it must have been something not very good. Lenalee had been known to run away a lot when she was in the Order, determined to go back to her older brother no matter what. At the age of nine, Leverrier had enough and ordered her to be locked away. She was strapped to a bed “for her own safety”, which may suggest insanity or suicidal tendencies were plaguing her fragile mind.

Komui Lee finally arrives at the Order as its new Supervisor to be with her and things get better for Lenalee. She meets the cook Jeryy who teaches her how to be a lady, is reunited with Kanda (she met him at eight, and saw him again when she was ten), meets Lavi at fourteen, and finally Allen Walker at sixteen. She now finally sees the Order as her home, and will do anything to protect it, the place that had once been a prison to her. This is how incredibly important her family and friends are to her. So long as they are by her side, any hellhole can transform into home sweet home.

However, as the story progresses, it no longer becomes a series of Akuma ass kicking, go home, and do it all over again next week. Lenalee gets sent on a mission with Allen, Lavi, Bookman, and Arystar Krory to go find General Marian Cross, Allen’s master who has been missing for several years. The mission seems difficult enough, but it becomes worse than imagined when, in China, they discover that one of their fellow Exorcists, Suman Dark, becomes a Fallen One. A Fallen One is a person who is rejected by Innocence and is turned into a hideous monster as punishment before he/she is eventually destroyed by said vengeful Innocence. Lenalee has a temporary breakdown, having witnessed one such incident before. When she was little, she walked in on an experiment where the Order tried to force Innocence on a young boy in an attempt to find a way to “create” Exorcists. Lenalee snaps out of her freakout in time to help Allen rescue a little girl, although it met leaving Allen behind when he gets sucked into the Fallen One’s body. While she watches over the unconscious girl in the clinic, Lenalee calls Komui. Komui tells her that Suman can’t be saved, and she’s enraged, unable to believe that he would give up on Suman. When the battle is over, Lenalee goes outside and searches for both Allen and Suman. Lavi soon joins her and together they set out to find them. Eventually, Allen’s golem Timcanpy leads them to where Allen was last seen. Allen’s body is not there, but a pool of blood and an Ace of Spades card is. Lenalee and Lavi watch Timcanpy’s horrifying recording of the Noah, Tyki Mikk, destroying Allen’s Innocence and killing Allen. Then, just before she leaves with the others to Japan, a man named Wong from the Order’s Asian branch tells her that she would not see Allen again. Even if he did survive, he is not an Exorcist anymore because his Innocence is destroyed. Lenalee goes into a state of shock, and even Lavi yelling at her to stand up can’t shake her out of it.

It is when the ship is attacked by a level three Akuma, Eishi, that Lenalee’s fighting spirit returns. Realizing that she is an Exorcist and cannot mourn over Allen forever, she apologizes to Lavi and makes the decision to fight Eishi on her own while the other Exorcists protect the ship from the hordes of weaker Akuma trying to destroy it. Lenalee ultimately wins the battle but nearly destroys herself in the process. All that saves her is her Innocence, when it encases her body in a crystal shell. Most of her hair did burn away and she is wounded, and when the crystal shell vanishes, her Innocence seems to have disappeared completely. Unable to activate her Boots, she can’t fight. She remains determined to go on, however, will figure out a solution to the problem no matter what. But first and foremost, she will remain by her friends’ sides.

The small group finally arrive in Edo, where they learn that’s not only where General Cross supposedly is, but apparently so is the Millennium Earl himself. There is a huge battle between the Exorcists and the Noah and Akuma, of which Lenalee cannot take part. The warrior inside of her is desperate to fight, even though it is impossible for her considering her Innocence is currently MIA. Bookman also points out that Lenalee could possibly be the Heart, the most powerful piece of Innocence, because hers protected her when it is a mere equipment type. Despite this, Lenalee wants nothing more than to fight by the sides of her comrades on the battlefield where she belongs. When the Earl literally wipes Edo off the face of the earth, her Innocence protects her again. She panics, trying to get out and fight likes she’s supposed to and the Earl, also thinking she may be the Heart, goes after her. While her Innocence can protect her from physical attacks, apparently mental ones are a different story. The Earl puts Lenalee in a strange illusion involving getting assaulted by gross, decaying skulls and is saved by Allen. She faints when her Innocence is forced back into her body and wakes up to see the battle is over and everyone is, for now, safe. She is ecstatic to see Allen again, that he is alive, and thanks him for trying to save Suman, believing that he saved Suman’s soul even if he couldn’t save his body. Then they both make fun of Lavi for crying on the ship when he thought Lenalee died in her battle with Eishi. Because whenever a mood needs to be lightened, just poke fun at Lavi.

The events of the Ark lead her to witness many horrible things, watching helplessly as her friends are tormented in their battle with the Noah. Because she is now a mere human, there is nothing she can do to help them. This does not sit well with her, as she tries again and again to fight for them even if its futile. In the end, Allen defeats the Noah and they managed to escape the Ark.

When Lenalee returns home to the Order, Leverrier has shown up. She is terrified of him, and because of her terror, is rather subjective to him which is strange for a girl who has no problem standing up for herself. It is when the Noah Lulubelle and a Level Four Akuma ambush the Order’s headquarters and begin killing people, that Lenalee retrieves her Innocence. She begs her Innocence to reaccept her, even if she may die from the rejection. She is an Exorcist, and will fight for her home and family. The Innocence accepts her, and that is when she gets her latest form of the Dark Boots. Using this newfound power, she discovers that the Boots are now propelled by her emotions, and helps Allen Walker defeat the Level Four Akuma and save their home from certain destruction.

Not much is seen of Lenalee after that. After the cracktastic events of the zombie virus that turned everyone into mindless monsters (not nearly as dark or graphic as suggested, it was actually very humorous), she moves with everyone to the new headquarters. She has acquired a new uniform and even her hair has grown a little bit. Last we heard, she was away on a mission. She’s still up and fighting and will continue to do so until the day she dies.

Point in Canon: Current (chapter 190 of the manga, although we haven’t seen her for a while).

Character Personality: Lenalee is two things: a teenage girl and a warrior. As a teenage girl, she is a sweetheart. She’s generous, fun loving, considerate, and compassionate. As a warrior, she is no-nonsense and focused. The mission comes first. Fun and games later. As being one of the few females in the Order, Lenalee tends to take on a motherly role, especially when it comes to handling the boys, Lavi, Allen, and Kanda. She has patience, but there is only so much she can take of Lavi’s antics or Allen’s and Kanda’s bickering. There are often times when she has to put her eccentric older brother in line. Granted, if it hadn’t been for her, Komui Lee most likely would have destroyed the world by now.

For all her sweetness, Lenalee is rather temperamental, and can even resort to physical violence to let someone know that they have pissed her off. Especially if you plan on letting yourself get killed for some greater cause. Then expect to have a mouthful of Lenalee fist for acting like a self-sacrificial moron. Lenalee can be rather selfish and clingy when it comes to her friends, but mostly that stems from her fear of being alone. Solitude is her worst nightmare, literally. Occasionally, she is haunted by the terrifying dream of a ruined world and her being its only occupant. To her, her friends, her brother, those who are close to her and whom she considers family, is the only world worth saving. Don’t get her wrong, she will rescue an innocent stranger but it does not hold the same merit in her eyes. She knows it is selfish thinking, and she doesn’t care.

Because of this absolute devotion she has to the people she cares about, the surefire way to send her into an emotional wreck is to lock her in a cage and force her to watch her friends getting hurt and she can’t do anything about it. Not only that, but she is an Exorcist, a warrior, first and foremost. She knows nothing about being a normal teenage girl and so being as helpless as any other common person is enough to send her over the edge. Add the two together, and you have just landed yourself a total Lenalee mental breakdown.

Lenalee is very emotional. Crying for her is common. Hey, to each his own outlet. Some people beat things into pulp, others break down like leaky faucets. As strong and determined as she can be, her mind is actually rather delicate due to her past. Since she had been forced to become an Exorcist, there is only so much she can get over. Her past is not one of them, especially when it has a nasty tendency to come back and bite her every once in a while. She tries not to let it get to her, however, especially on the battlefield and isn’t afraid to call herself out or apologize for her own weakness holding her back.

She’s pretty much used to seeing the strange and bizarre and ending up in odd places. The idea of landing in a strange land with monsters and other possible dangers isn’t going to freak her out much, and may actually invoke a bit of girlish curiosity. The only things in the world that send her into panic mode are if she’s alone, her friends are getting hurt and there’s nothing she can do about it, or if she’s reminded of her darker past in some form or another.

After the Ark, Lenalee has become much more laid back in terms of how a proper lady should behave. When she met Jeryy, he taught her about acting like a lady. She’s polite and proper for the most part, but sometimes it does slip when she gets upset, or when she’s around the people she knows. Once, she was even caught taking a nap in Allen’s room and her skirt had hiked up to her hip in her sleep. Someone come purify this wild woman!

Character Plans: Hmmm… she may try to fight her way out, but her first and foremost concern is for the people around her, especially if she establishes relationships with them. She will try to make sure they’re okay first before worrying about herself. So she will try to be a friend and get used to her surroundings before going off on any heroic quests, if that makes sense. Besides, this is the first time she had been away from the Order’s clutches so she may try to enjoy herself a bit.

Writing Samples
First Person Sample: [Some static at first, but then it clears when a girl’s voice comes through. She sounds sweet, but nervous, as if embarrassed.]

Hello? Hello? Anyone there? Ah, yes, my name is Lenalee and I think I’m a little lost. Uh… I’m not sure where exactly it is I’m going. I was trying to find a market and somehow I don’t think this is it. I’m sorry for inconveniencing anyone asking for directions. It’s just that, I’m not quite used to this place and, well, I am a little hungry. And cooking isn’t exactly my forte…. [mumble mumble]

So if anyone would be willing to point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

Third Person Sample

Now that her call was done, the golem went back into her jacket through her sleeve. When Lenalee had first arrived here, it amazed her how her golem could not only communicate with other golems like back at home, but connect to other various communication devices as well. This world, for all its strangeness, was pretty amazing.

If only she hadn’t gotten the midnight munchies, then she wouldn’t be in this situation. She had heard of some markets that were open even late at night, yet there didn’t seem to be any near her new place of residence. She sighed. If only Jeryy were here. Maybe he would try to teach her how to cook again. That is, if he had finally forgiven her for nearly burning the kitchen down.

A sound brought her out of her thoughts and back to reality. A hissing sound, not a good sound. “Innocence,” she whispered, and the crimson rings around her ankles glowed. Her red shoes transformed into red boots, the power within them tingling throughout her whole body. She didn’t take off into the air just yet, waiting patiently for this threat to show itself. Lenalee did not arrive in this place with the belief that nothing dangerous would happen. Where she had come from, danger could appear at any given moment. Tomorrow was never guaranteed, not for an Exorcist. She had to fight to see the next sunrise.

Lenalee nearly shrieked from surprise and horror when the thing revealed itself from the shadows. It was about the size of a housecat with a human-like face but that was not the horror. It was like a cockroach. GAH! Cockroaches!! It didn’t matter if they looked different from the ones back home. A cockroach is a cockroach is a cockroach.

“I hate bugs!” she screamed, literally jumping several feet in the air as several came at her. A few jumped in the air, immediately to meet the sharp toe of a panicking teenage girl. They landed on the ground with sickening splats, waved their little legs in the air before managing to turn themselves over to attack again. Gross! Gross gross gross gross!!!!

Seeing that these disgusting, horrible, awful creatures were not going to go down easy, Lenalee did what she only could do. Butterflies appeared on the heels of her Boots and her fear and determination propelled her in the direction of her new home with a speed that the Gutter Roaches could not hope to match.

Lenalee Lee never ran away from a fight. Bugs were a different story.
