It's been quite a while since the last time I wrote an actual update, so here it goes. Since the last time I wrote one, Once Upon A Mattress went up, I took all my finals, moved into my new room, and came home for the holidays.
DC Players' production of Once Upon A Mattress went extremely well. It came together quite nicely in the end. The entire cast was talented, enthusiastic, and just as crazy (if not crazier) than me. With the assistance of my mother, I made headpieces for all of the ladies-in-waiting (which really made our costumes look so much better), and Meghan and I did hair. I also ended up choreographing the number "Very Soft Shoes." I'm very proud of the way the show turned out, not only because the cast was so talented, but also because I was more involved in this one than I have been with past shows. I wish I could make my living as a dancer/singer/actress/choreographer/costumer/hairdresser. But because I had so much fun working on this show and made so many new friends and the whatnot, I actually cried during the finale the last night of the show. I just had this real emotional epiphony...it was like "Wow...I've worked on this thing all semester, and now it's actually over." I couldn't help but cry a bit afterwards. Friday night's performance had to be my favorite, mostly because we had a fantastic audience who laughed at everything, but also because of the majorly funny mishaps and recovery during "Song of Love." And Zach's line during Saturday night's finale..."Unhand the boy...Go have sex!" I cracked up. But yeah, fantastic run of a fantastic show with a fantastic cast and crew. I will miss it dearly. The cast party at 206 Hempstead was...well...craziness. I have very few things to say about it...first, I still maintain that Spin-the-bottle does not constitute as cheating(it's just a game), second, that spooning with 4 other people is way more fun than spooning with just one other person, and thirdly, (to quote Kevin Oakes)"You live, you die, you eat a little chicken salad."
That Sunday after Mattress ended, I auditioned for The Vagina Monologues. I've seen it all 3 years that I've been at Bing thus far, and I was determined this year to be a part of it. I found out tonight that I didn't get a monologue, but I get to do the intro for the piece that I auditioned with, coincidently, which is "Reclaiming CUNT." I am so excited! I think the VagiMons is gonna be a lot of fun, it's got a powerful message, and it's for a good cause.
I moved out of my double room on Friday night and into my new single. It's small enough to be someone's closet, but I don't care...It's all mine, and I no longer have to share a bedroom with the dreaded Spongebob, and that's all I care about. I might try to buy some more posters to put up on my wall, since there are still a few blank spaces I can fill.
My finals actually went pretty well. American Lit and Shakespeare Adaptations were pretty damn easy, World Dramatic Lit was kinda tricky but I don't think I bombed it, and Arthurian Lit was my last final so I was just glad when it was over. I've gotten 3 grades back so far and I'm pleased with the results: I was rewarded for all the shit I was given throughout the semester with an A in Children's Dance Theatre, I was given an A- by Barb for Costume Run Crew and from what I hear that's really good because apparently Barb makes it near impossible to actually get an A, and I got an A- in American Lit but it really wasn't a hard class at all. I still have yet to hear from all my harder classes...I'm thinking B+/A- for both Arthurian and Shakespeare, and I'm hoping for at least a B in World Dramatic Lit. I busted my butt this semester and worked harder than I ever have before in college, and I hope I'm rewarded for my efforts.
I have a busy break ahead of me...I have to help clean the house, decorate for Christmas, sign up for the GRE's, study for the GRE's, take the GRE's, start applying to grad schools(even though I would probably be happier living la vie boheme), e-mail professors for reccomendations, finish Christmas shopping, figure out whether or not I have time to work at the hospital(this decision I have to make like now), help my mom finish the CDT costumes...and the list just goes on...it'll be my busiest winter break ever, and I just hope I can also make time to visit with friends in the city. I don't know...I swear, it never ends...I'm always busy, and that's the way it will probably always be. The good news is that I'll probably be going down to Florida with my whole family to visit my grandpa the week before I go back to school, so that ought to be fun and relaxing...of course, Lord knows what I'll end up doing for Spring break.
That's all for now, folks.
