We had a nice weekend, with a good deal of eating at home. We have been very bad and lazy lately with eating out and ordering, and this weekend, we didn't do too bad with it!
Friday has turned into our pizza at home, watch a movie night. Once Mina was in bed we finally saw Perks of Being a Wallflower. I had loved the book (I love coming of age stories, and this one had a kick-ass soundtrack and Rocky Horror Picture Show themes). I think they did a great job with it, and I loved how the actors did with awkward/alternative teenage angst.
On Saturday we did some productive things, and brought Mina to a kid birthday party in our neighborhood. I met the mom and birthday girl when Mina was only a month or so old, at a new mom's group we signed up for (for free) through the Freedman Center
http://www.mspp.edu/community/freedman-center/. Brian came with me thank goodness, so I wasn't the only one to chase Mina around the house. It was nice to catch up with some other moms from the group and was just crazy to see how our kids have grown.
We went to visit our friend Terry on Sunday in CT who breeds Alaskan Malamutes. Oh my goodness, did Mina have a blast there! Brian suited up in his snow trooper and we got photos with the dogs on their sled (safely mounted to a tree). Photos to come! She had no fear with them all bounding at her on the other side of a glass wall, but up close, she had a healthy respect for them. She tried to snuggle with the largest male, laying her head down on his huge back.
Our plan on Monday was to check out the
http://www.kidsfunfair.com/ and meet some friends there. Mina's nap schedule and tiredness, put us there early and sitting in the parking lot, waiting for her to wake. Since their website didn't work with flash on my iphone, I googled for other sites with reviews of the place, only to find some horrible stories of animal cruelty, patron neglect and that sort of thing. We were not going to go to a place like that! We contacted our friends and decided to meet up instead at
http://www.theklubhouse.com/. The kids got to play and run around and the adults got to socialize a bit. I learned a valuable lesson about doing the research before bringing my kid to some kind of activity. :/ I'm curious how long they've been coming to the Shriner's Auditorium. They have been in business for quite a long time. Here are some of the sites we found about the "zoo".
