sometimes I'm awesome
so everything has been shitty. EXCEPT for this:
so this afternoon I was lurking around the Hold Steady message boards and I see that they are doing a live set for WXPN at World Cafe later that night. World Cafe is two blocks from my dorm and real tiny. pretty much I need to be there. I find out it's for a radio conference and it's not open to the public and even if you work in the industry passes for the event are $100 (there were a few other artists and pannels etc) okay whatever, i NEED to be there.
so long story short I creeped around world cafe for 2 1/2 hours. But I was NOT giving up hope because I didn't want these 3 hours spent lurking to be for nothing. Well persistance paid off because JUST as I was about to go, I tried talking to one more guy about getting in and I picked the right one cause he escorted me right into the show!
I get in.... and fucking Ani Difranco is playing! which was awesome. such a random suprise.
Then...the hold steady start. I was directly in front/center in front of Craig. There were 3 people (myself included) who knew the words. All the old men were into it though, but the floor was pretty clear...most people were up by the bar. I still danced crazy like it was a regular show, it was amazing. pretty much a personal show. I don't know how I ended up there, but I'm glad I did. The new stuff sounds amazing! there is a line during "Stay Positive" that goes "you know we couldn't have done this if it wasn't for you" and Craig pointed directly at me and that was real cute. i didn't want to assume he did and then inbetween the next song, this guy was like "Hey, he sang that song to you!" so it was kinda weird cause their crowds are usuallly OUT OF CONTROL dance parties and i was out of control dancing...alone.
oh and after the head of WXPN came up to me and told me I looked like I was having a good time and then said i was "fucking awesome" for dancing my little heart out and said he wished more fans could have been there.
it was a pretty cool night.
