lighthouse-the: Challenge 4x14: Ship your Ship!

I'm a sucker for platonic relationships that don't get a lot of screentime but have a few of those absolutely perfect conversations and scenes that I want to rewatch over and over. So Quentin and Margo from The Magicians (TV) was my first thought when I saw this challenge, and that's what I ended up sticking with. ♥ (I absolutely adore Eliot and Margo too. And Quentin and Eliot and Margo. And Quentin and Eliot. And I could totally just go for the OT3, but the fact that Quentin and Margo seems to be the pairing with the least screentime makes it feel the most appealing somehow. :D)

The essence of this relationship? Take the bright-eyed dork and the "mean girl", have them become BFFs and have a platonic threesome in the meantime. Margo quite obviously adores Quentin since pretty much the day they met, but it takes Quentin a really long time to realize that she even likes him at all, which is kinda sad, but also very Quentin (he's not just bright-eyed, he's also depressed and awkward). And they both love the Fillory book series! ♥ Margo turns out to be a total nerd too, while keeping up her cool persona, she is just less open about it than he is.

I'm going to share five of my favorite scenes. ♥ They kinda don't have all that many more scenes than that, lol.

Episode 1x02

Margo and Eliot basically only just met Quentin. He thinks he's going to be expelled from Brakebills, the magical university that is pretty much a literal dream come true. He gets to stay, and he gets welcomed back with a barbecue. This is more of an Eliot scene, but Margo is just as excited to see Quentin come back, she's just not the person to show it as openly, especially this early.

This is an old picspam I made for a different challenge, so it's not for points (it's also just Quentin, not the relatonship). But look at this face journey of relief and bliss and fond amusement. *heart eyes* :D

Episode 1x05

This is a pretty sad scene actually, where things have just gone wrong and Margo talks to Quentin about the ability to do magic generally coming from pain. Quentin has his epic line of "Why can't it run on love or cocaine or something?" (it turns out later on that sometimes it actually does) and then they share the cutest laugh. Like, this laugh, this cuteness alone makes it one of the best scenes ever. :D

And this is my picspam for points. :D

Episode 1x06

Sooo, this scene ends with Quentin being "roofied" (his own words) by Margo and taken to another location... Which is part of the Brakebills trials that are in place because the professor are testing the first year students, so it's nothing personal on her part. Which doesn't mean she is not enjoying herself. But it's also the scene where Quentin tells Margo that Narnia Fillory is real, and where we (and Quentin) actually first find out that Margo loves the Fillory books too.

Margo also learns that Fillory most likely sucks, which leads to another of my favorite exchanges:
"Jesus. That is not tonally consistent with the books."
"No, it's not. And that- I just- I find that... devastating."
It's just really soft and honest and funny, and that can't even be changed by the whole "roofied" thing. :P

Episode 2x01

The coronation! Where Margo finally says how awesome she thinks Quentin is ("I could start by saying something cruel yet totally hilarious about you. Let's be real, you're an easy target. But that's- well, that's because you're honest about what you love. And underneath it all, that's inspiring.") and crowns him King Quentin the Moderately Socially Maladjusted, and they're just all-around adorable. :D

Episode 2x10

Quentin is drunk and sad and not having a good time at all. Margo is exasperated and uses some colorful language (which is basically just a definition of Margo :D), but also gives him something to do, which can potentially make him feel better. And here comes this exchange:
"Three months on Fillory of emo Quentin. Not my favorite Quentin."
"I didn't know that you liked any of the Quentins."
Only took him two seasons to realize that Margo being Margo doesn't mean that she doesn't genuinely like him. Which is adorable in its own clueless way. :D
