I'm not sure that I fully understand the idea of a sleep out. My school is hosting one where kids go into a park and sleep out in the cold all night, I guess to create an environment similar to that of a homeless person. But to me, this seems DUMB. Because the people who care already feel sympathy and compassion for homeless people and the people who don't aren't going to endure the weather any longer then it takes for them to walk from the cab to the bars. If you are that dedicated to the cause that you would want to submit yourself to those conditions, why don't you put it towards something useful, like collecting warm clothes and food and other necessities that homeless people might need? I'm pretty sure that homeless people aren't going to be that touched that there are 40 other people in the city sleeping unecessarily in the cold weather. It seems like a waste of time and energy that could otherwise be put to good use.
BUT! if someone has another point of view on it, please enlighten me! I'm truly perplexed by this.
