Since I have already read this book and discussed it in lit club I know what goes on and a lot about the book. However, i love how the book lists the actual physical things the soldiers carried and the emotional thinngs aswell. When you think of what they carried you never think about the hatchet a soldier got from his father or pictures you think of guns and ammo. It's not all abut that. The emotional stuff also. Such as jimmy cross and his love story with a girl back home who does'nt feel the same way about him as he does with her. It sort of gives them life and makes the characters seem real and interesting. Lieutenant Cross seems a little lovestruck. He's a lieutenant and it seems like his day dreaming could get him into trouble. Plus, he seems to be perverted becasue he wants to get all up on her. He touches her knee and stuff and dreams about touching more.
I like how the author switches from talking about the actual war to a scene many years later of him and jimmy cross talking. They talk of love and what has happened to so many of the soldiers since the war.
