I'm still adjusting to gaining that hour of sleep from Daylight Savings(?). In all actuality, it means it gets lighter a bit earlier in the day, which means I wake up earlier, you'd think that would equate me going to bed earlier as well, but being as Im a night owl to begin with, it means Im still staying up just as late and also waking up at the break of dawn (or what it feels like..).
So in a very impromptu moment, I agreed to go to a "party" with my friend Carol. Her ruse for getting me there was that it was a friend's birthday party, which had I been thinking sneaky, that friend was me. We started out at SBC (Southern Brewing Company), which from past experience has very good local brew, and Im not so keen on heavy dark ales, (all my Irish forefather sare rolling in their graves I KNOW), I decided on a regular favourite, the Strawberry Blonde, a pale light headed ale with a douse of strawberry flavouring added at the very end. One of the reason I enjoy SBC is that they also serve food, what I didnt consider was the fact that we were just starting our night at 10pm, the Kitchen closes at 10pm, so I started out my night with no food since 6pm. Carol ordered a Hawaiian punch martini, which I eyeballed lasciviously, she being my dd, tasted her drink and how much alcohol there was in it and gave it to me, along with a Tiramasu martini on the house, I had a hell of a start, considering I had only been out for 45 minutes.
It was a slow Monday Night Football night, the owner decided SBC was going to be closing at 11, so we decided to leave and make our way to Fireside in East Haven. You gotta love sports bars on Monday Nights. We made a brief detour to McDonalds because I was very drunk and knew I would be in rough shape if I didnt get something/anything to eat. MmmmmmmmmmmmMM Chicken Nuggets and Fries. I am a loon when im drunk and making food choices. So we headed back to Fireside where much of our group was getting back into drinking, and we walk in and the bartenders already know who I am and that its my birthday. Also of all the nights for there to be vast numbers of really drunk but very nice guys at that bar, it was last night. So we sit down and already we have shots coming, the first round was Limeade and the second round was Sex on the Beach or some version thereof. By this point, because shots are my weakness, Im pondering something a bit lighter-ish, and I grab some Smirnoffs Twisted's for the table not remembering that Carol isnt drinking, so I drink mine and I glance at her and she pushes hers over, so of course Im obligated *cough* . Lordy, I shoulda stopped there, but I started a tradition with my cousin Brian, and the last drink of the night is called a Starry Night, it's a shot of Jager and a shot of Goldschlagger mixed, usually the bartender will just take a shot glass and do half and half, which is no big deal, instead I got a full shot of each put into a glass and the whole bar starts singing Happy Birthday while I attempt to shoot it/drink it. Ouch. We left soon thereafter and it was exactly 12:15am, I was a disaster and very glad I decided I wasnt driving much earlier in the night. .
Amazingly, I woke up and felt surprisingly perky and hangover free, so far no headache and I have plans to go do it all over again with another group of friends for my birthday round deux. I must be making up for my quiet early twenties.
Im still getting excited to see my brother at Thanksgiving, and I may actually survive the car trip with my Mother from Connecticut to Hilton Head, SC just based on that gladness I have to get to spend some time with him. The week after Thanksgiving for my Wellness class, we're going to the UN to hear several talks from the WHO on global health issues, Im super enthused to have the opportunity, and a trip to NYC extended is always great fun.
