Friday I worked for this comedy club job, which I think can fuck right off. That's not saying I actually had a great day on the Friday, but that was nothing to do with the job itself. It was mored to do with the fact I was selling at a Food and, more importantly WINE expo.
So in total I sold 10 tickets. In between the times of selling tickets, I drank quite a lot of wine and beer. Then I remembered I had another job to go to.
So Friday night came the highlight of my telemarketing career, which involved a guy totally going of my head at me, and me continuing to pitch "this excellent product" to him.
Him: "So...you're in fucking Melbourne or something are ya?"
Me: "yeah, we're down in Melbourne"
Him: "what the fuck are you calling me here in fucking Tamworth for huh?"
Me: "It's The Australian, it's a NATIONAL paper"
Him: "I don't want any fucking newspapers" etc
Me: "Well we've got the daily telegraph if you'd like that one..."
yeah. that ruled.
So Friday night I went out with this guy Matt from work. He's one of those cars gurus who's always like... "do you like that car?" then I go "I don't care about cars" and so on and so forth.
But anyway, we went to Katy, this girl from work's 19th birthday, which was at Icon Bar in the city. I can't see myself returning there in a hurry. But the night was pretty good. This guy told me he'd give me a job paying $6000 a month or something selling big screen tvs and stuff, then he later told me he was a drug dealer. This bar also had all these girls dancing on the bar, and they were all pretty rank. Probably the rankest one says to me "give me your jocks" and then I said "no". Then she said "why not" and I said "fuck off" and went to the other end of the bar to get my beer.
So after a while there beers stopped being cheap, and we went to Sectionate and saw Double Dragon and Truth Corroded. Beers here were also pretty cheap, so we had a few more of them. Towards of the end of DD's set, there was some song with a really fucking huge breakdown in it, so I started moshing and all of a sudden I was flying...
this massive security guard picked me up and carried me out the door. All these dudes were following me out going "fuck off man, he's just moshing etc etc etc" and then I was shown the door, and left and cracked up laughing.
We stayed at a backpackers in the city, mainly for convenience, so headed back in that direction. On the way I stopped at some place with pokies and won $13 out of a $1 bet, which mean I could drink a bit more.
We went into the backpackers and then met some German girls, and we went to some club with them, which just so happened to be in the same building that I used to sell holidays out of. So that was kind of weird. Stayed there for quite a while, Matt was trying to pick up one of the German girls. That dude is quite strange, I've got to say (not because he was trying to pick up some girls, but he's just pretty weird).
But anyway, got back to the backpackers close to three, then I went to sleep, then we got up in the morning, had our free breakfast in the hostel, and went to work. 10-5 is a long time to work on a saturday. Especially when it's doing telemarketing.
So Saturday night I went in and stopped by Ruditsch's for a bit, then met up with Simon, Kate and Lydia. First we went to the hotel where Lydia's boyfriend works. There was a guy wearing a top hat out the front, so we kinda thought we'd be a bit too riff-raff ish for their liking, but only had to go to the reception part anyway. We went to a cafe down the road and had some drinks, then we all parted ways and me and Simon went to the premier of About Rollerblading at ACMI. I did a lot of cringing during this experience. Firstly about the people there, and them basically looking at us thinking "who the fuck are you?" Then I watched the actual film. Shitty low budget footage (which came out of a high value camera). Terrible soundtrack of bad emo ballads and then the obligatory rap song. Basically everything in the video was a poor attempt at matching whatever came out of America 3-5 years ago. So afterwards we tried to strike up a conversation with a few people, but there was not much good in that, so we left and ended up at Crown where I put in $10 and came out with $35 after playing roulette, blackjack and casino war. Then I caught the train home to Geelong.
This morning I was back on the V Line, and headed in to play some footbag with Dan. By the end of the year I can see myself knocking him out. For sure. He infuriates me. But yeah, worked on some more basics. And I know that it will be better for my game, blah blah. BUT I WOULD PREFER IF YOU WEREN'T SUCH A CONDESCENDING (sp?) CUNT!! kthxbai.
Then I went to the Shotpointblank show at St Ambrose Hall. It was reasonably good. But, I did feel kinda weird...mainly in the fact that I just don't know anybody in Melbourne, and everyone, once again, looks at you with the look of "who the fuck are you buddy?".
But anyway, I got there in the last few songs of Antagonist. There was this giant circle, with about 3 people moshing on the edges of the pit into the people on the sides. Then I saw 50 Lions, and the sound was terrible, and I didn't really enjoy that at all. SPB didn't play a whole lot off Heart of A Disbeliever which is the only recording of theirs I know particularly well, so I didn't know too much. But they were really really good. Actually, the only other time I saw them was Hardcore 2004. That was a long, long, long time ago.
But yeah. Not that many people were moshing...too any of the bands. They are some of the biggest mosh bands in Australia....but people are too busy staring at people and wondering who the fuck they are. With such a big circle area, it made running circle pits a fucking tiring effort, and made me feel particularly unfit. But yeah, from what I saw, the person who was most into it was the girl who was previously selling vegan cupcakes, and so much of the crowd just stood there. Which is pretty much what I've heard about/experienced at a lot of shows in Melbourne. That everybody just stands there.
At the end of the afternoon, there was a distro having a clearance sale. All CD's ONE DOLLAR
