so the Stonefest weekend is all over, I had myself a pretty sweet old time.
I barely drank goon at all over the weekend, in an amazing correlation, this led to a much lower rate of hangover...who would have thought!
Dowmo and Howey from Bega stayed at Ben's place, so it sweet hanging out with them, the only time I've seen them since school was Livid in 2003 when I randomly bumped into them at the start of the day.
Regurgitator were pretty rad. My only griped was that they generally played a new song followed by an old one, rather than lots of old stuff in a row. "! (Song Formerly Known As)" was definitely a highlight. After this we went back to Ben's for more beer, then came back up for The Herd. They seemed kind of bored by their own set, and in was freezing cold, so I didn't dig them too much. After "77%" I decided I'd had enough and headed home to bed.
At about 4am I was awoken by a strange sound, it was Kate breaking into my room to take advantage of me in my half-asleep state. This was pretty random really.
Cog were the first band I got up to see yesterday, I was going to go check out Los Caps, but didn't really feel like making an appearance in the early hours of the festival. They opened up with "Anarachy OK" and then went into "Moshiach"...old stuff yay! That was the only old song in the set though. There were a couple of new songs, which both sounded great. the first one actually sounded quite a lot like the song "Just Visiting". There was more of a link to the earlier Cog/ large Tool influence days, I thought.
One letdown of the show was whenever you looked around, about 3 people in the crowd actually knew who the fuck Cog were. And people starting a circle bit during Cog....seriously......there not very heavy at all. I don't get it.
back to Ben's for more beer, then back up for Mark of Cain. Just as we were going over to watch, I noticed a large hack circle, and joined in. There were about 20 people in it, it was pretty rad. And it was awesome, just playing a bit of hack, then looking over and watching Mark of Cain rock out. And they played Interloper and Familiar Territory, it was fucking sweet.
Hung around up until Sarah Blasko, watched her, she was pretty good, but made very odd hand movements. After her set I seemed to see everyone I hadn't seen for the festival yet. I was talking to Nel and saying I was cold, and she ended up lending me Chloe's jacket, which I still have. I'll give it back someday. The Hoodoo Gurus came on, I wasn't really into it, nor the seedy dudes hanging with Nel. I was saying goodbye and one of the dudes is like "why go, there's plenty of chicks in here" and I was like "I have a girlfriend, I'm going to her house". So I headed to Kate's and once I got there I was safe from the cold. It was a really cold night last night. The nightr before also.
This morning we just had a fairly lazy day before I came back here, headed over to Ben's and went to the lighthouse for some free BBQ action. Well timed, as they were about to run out of sausages.
So now I'm just going to hang out. Raiders tomorrow, reasonable amount of AIS tours during the weeke. I have 5 (in a row) on Friday. Money!
