She knew the darkness would always follow them. It had always had Mulder’s number, and her life was irrevocably tied to his. Despite her best efforts to tell herself there was something else, some other life that she would be able to lead without him, she knew it was a lie.
She had done her best at one point to function without him, but it had been harder than she’d made it look, and people had told her how far he could fall without her.
There was no undoing their inexplicable bond. Not even if the darkness came to try.
