It was Carpe Jugulum, one of the discworld novels.

I don't remember how it started, but recently I've been threatening to rip out luckylefty's jugular if he's teasing me or if I'm just feeling grumpy. So regardless of whether I actually like the book, it was the perfect present for him to give me.

And yes, I'm off TIPping. Kids arrive on Sunday. Trying to concentrate enough to write some code in preparation.
