A lesson about Irony

Jan 18, 2005 17:11

In english today we were learning about irony and my teacher, Ms. Hansen, brought in these lyrics I felt weird reading it because sometimes I wanted to laugh and sometimes cry and then she went into detail playing everything out and it was...very...I don't, just its hard to explain...ya but here it is....

-IRONIC- By Alanis Morsette

An old man turned 98
He won the lottery
And died the next day…

It’s a black fly
In your Chardonnay
Its a death row pardon two minutes to late…

Its like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid

Its some good advice that you just didn’t take
And who would of thought it figures?

Mr. Play-it-safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kid’s goodbye
He waited his whole life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down
He thought, “Well isn’t this nice?
And isn’t it Ironic? Don’t you think?”

Its like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid

Its some good advice that you just didn’t take
And who would of thought it figures?

A traffic jam when you’re already late
A No Smoking sign on your cigarette break
Its like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It’s meeting the man of your dreams
Then meeting his beautiful wife

And isn’t it Ironic, don’t you think?
A little too Ironic…
Yes I really do think-

Its like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid

Its some good advice that you just didn’t take
And who would of thought it figures?

And who would have thought it figures…?
