Just a recap of our long holiday weekend trip to PA!!
Tuesday Evening: We headed out of town around 6:15 after showing my brother a quick tour of the house and eating a light dinner. He is living back on this side of the state and agreed to stay at our place and watch the cats. We stopped just outside of Toledo for gas as it was almost twenty cents cheaper than MI gas and I took Mackenzie inside to change her into her pjs. Once we got back into the car and on to the Ohio turn-pike I gave her the usual evening snack and she ended up sleeping for a couple of hours. It was much better than the last evening trip as she is now FF and the car lights didn't bother her this trip!! We stopped just outside the PA border and got Mackenzie out to stretch the legs. She saw a baby Beagle puppy and it was her new best friend. I guess DH said she was both scared and excited all in one. The remainder of the ride she just stared out the car windows and didn't make a peep. We ended up making it to IL's house in about 6 1/4 hours which is really good time. It was no after midnight and Mackenzie was too excited to sleep right away. Finally after about an hour we all headed to bed and she only cried for a few minutes and was out for the count.
Wednesday: We woke up around 8:30 and just took our time that morning. We headed into town to get some diapers and ended up finding a really cute blow up pool for Mackenzie to enjoy at Grandma's house. Once we got home and ate some lunch she took an afternoon nap well Daddy set up the pool. Mackenzie really enjoyed it and the water temp was just right as it was like a warm bath water, plus it had a shade canapy and that was an added bonus to our fair skinned child!! We had burgers for dinner and Mackenzie didn't seem to mind as she munched on some of mine and enjoyed herself. She went down for the night pretty easy as I think the traveling had caught up to her.
Thursday: We woke up again around 8:30 (l love being able to sleep in on vacation) and we ended up heading to Jamestown, NY to visit one of MIL's good friends. She hasn't seen Mackenzie yet and it is a short drive from their house. We had some lunch at Wendy's and then headed back home for the important afternoon nap. That night we had Lasagna and Mackenzie loved it!! I had an upset tummy that evening as I think the sauce didn't agree with me and I went to sleep shortly after I got the little girl down.
Friday: We really just hung out around the house as it was a pretty low key holiday. We filled up the pool again for the little girl, but it was a bit chilly as it was only in the mid 70's that day. Man I didn't realize how crazy people get with fireworks as the neighbors went nutz with them (dropping so serious cash into a short display)!!
Saturday: Again we just hung out at home as we both seem to finally start to relax a few days into our trip. Mackenzie had plenty of new toys to play with as Grandma got a bunch of toys from Matt's Aunt and they were the hit of the trip. Mackenzie fell in love with the mini umbrella stroller for her baby and pushed that thing all over the house. That night Matt's friends came over for a visit at almost 9pm and then had the never to wonder why she was asleep for the night. I love my single and childfree friends, but don't ever question why a kid has to sleep on a set schedule until you have kids of your own. He even had the balls to go and look at her sleeping in her pack and play!! If he had woke her up I would have let her hear it!! We did end up going to the local fireworks and they were actually pretty good for such a small town. The whole time we just got grilled about planning for baby #2 as they have yet to start with #1!! I think in a way his friend was really pissed that we are trying for #2 as his wife put it best they have yet to leave the starting blocks. That isn't our fault and we should be punished for that in the least bit. This was only more eveident when they didn't come back the following day to see Mackenzie. We still don't know what happened as when they let that night they were going to come by and spend some time with her. I guess I need to check into that as you know men and their friends.
Sunday: We took a trip up to Hearts Content (part of The Allegenehy National Forest) and took the little girl for a hike in the woods. It was nice to get out and about and Mackenzie really seemed to enjoy it. We got some great pictures of her and I will post them once we get them downloaded!! After her nap we played in the pool and it was another big hit as the water was much warmer this time around. The rest of the evening we stayed home thinking our friends would show up and that was a no-show!! Mackenzie went down easy that night, but shortly after we went to sleep she woke up screaming. DH was pissed and ended up sleeping on the couch as the pack and play was in the room we sleep in. Oh well it was his lose as she calmed down after we cuddled on the lounge chair for a bit.
Monday: The car was packed and ready to leave just after 10am and we said our goodbyes!! Mackenzie did really well for only taking about a 45 minute nap on the whole drive. I packed a lunch for her and it worked out really well as she ate well we got some food ourselves. We made it home just before 5pm and were able to unload the car before the rain came. You would have sworn that Mackenzie came to a brand new house as she had to check out all of her toys as if she had never seen them before. The rest of the evening we just all settled into the usual rotuine and went to bed early.
Overall the trip was a nice change of pace and just reminds us that we want to get out of the big city before too long!! Macknezie is really becoming a character these days and has become much more animated and vocal!! Last and most importantly not least we have started tying for #2, so we will see how this goes the second time around.
#2,
