This was really lovely. It makes sense that Jim can show this to the world but be afraid of how his best friends will take it, and I also love that little book-hunger that creeps into it.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you thought that it made sense... I really wanted to show how Jim kept pulling himself away and losing himself and his balance, only to realize that he needed to pull back in to his friends to be himself, and do his job, and work through his past...

And the book hunger -- I couldn't resist! Jim Kirk loves real books -- this is absolutely true in my canon.

Very good stuff. I hope the OP is thrilled with this, I know I am! I especially loved Jim's fear that someone would know his ghosts before he did.

I'm delighted that you loved that line about ghosts -- it was a late addition to the story and almost didn't make it in. Jim does have a lot of ghosts, though, so I figured it wouldn't be good to leave them out. :-)

Amazing!! Hmmm... I wish I could read the book, but the excerpts you let slip are just wonderful and exactly the right stuff for this fic to work! There's a Rec List that I found for Tarsus fics Here. Do you mind if I give them the link to this fic so it can be added?
